Today's win over Portland is a crucial one. Based on records in last a few seasons and my calculation on rockets and their potential competitors' remaining schedules, 4 more wins will secure rockets' play-off seat.

Go and fight, rockets!:) :) :)

Well, the way I see it, with Denver and Portland having 35 losses, the most wins they could have would be 47. Which leads me to say we need seven more victories to be sure.

Since its highly unlikely that neither Denver or Portland will sweep the rest of their games, six victories ought to secure a playoff spot.

The key games in which the Rockets must win are the ones against Memphis, Denver and Utah.

In all likelihood, the Rockets will limp into the playoffs, just barely maybe even. Hopefully Kelvin Cato will be off the injured list.

The other thing to consider is the top four bracket. With the recent surge of the Los Angeles Lakers, they may well clinch the 2nd seed. So meeting Minnesota isn't a lock yet.

It's boiled down to a numbers game.

We have 40 wins, while Utah (next in line) have 36.

If we win 4, Utah need 8. Looking at their schedule, it's highly unlikely they'll get that many.

Denver has a brutal schedule, I'm not worried about them.

Portland has a bunch of road games, and are no good on the road. They are the team I'm worried about, but worse case scenario, they take 7th and we take 8th.

We need to go 4-9 the rest of the way. We can lose 9 of 13. We'er a lock for 8th, we need to focus on winnign 5 or 6 to clinch 7th.

They can't as long as Sacremento is the 1st seed. 2nd seed always goes to the best team in the other division, regardless of record.

Thanks for pointing that out, AstroRocket! Yes you are correct. I did overlook that.

But the San Antonio Spurs, are also breathing down the necks of the Timberwolves for the division title. They are the defending champions after all. And the Rockets have yet to win against the Spurs. And yes, they haven't beaten the Kings yet too.

Just keeping the 7th seed would be a challenge for the Rockets. Lets hope Kelvin Cato comes back to the roster soon.
