I wasn't going to make a thread on this game, figuring it was probably too niche. But then I saw this today:
    http://ps3.ign.com/articles/118/1185654p1.html
I guess still a bit niche, but that is pretty impressive. So maybe the game has a wider audience than I expected.

I finished the main part of the game over the weekend, and really enjoyed it. I'm too lazy to do a proper review, but I thought it was really solid (not quite as good as some of the previous, RPGs from Atlus, but I think very highly of those games). Don't think the puzzle gameplay really clicked with me as much as I would have liked, but I still enjoyed it. Pretty much had to put it on "Very Easy" eventually...yeah, I wussed out (the game can be very challenging). Very well-designed though, and of course, different than most games out there (dudebro shooters and stuff).

While the puzzle part maybe didn't click with me 100% (I liked it, didn't love it), the rest of the game is pretty much exactly what I've come to love about Atlus games. Great presentation, voice acting, writing/dialogue (they always seem to have good humor too), music, etc. A relatively "mature" storyline that doesn't have you going off to save the world, battle orcs/aliens, save princesses, or any of that crap. Main character is just a down-to-Earth guy with normal problems. His conflict is how he will end up living the rest of his life, not how to defeat some massive crab boss. Oh and I guess he has nightmares that could end up killing him, just like several other young men in the city. I guess that's a bit unusual.

I'll admit I was a bit skeptical when I learned that this was going to be a puzzle game rather than a RPG. While I think I would have preferred a RPG, I did enjoy the puzzle gameplay. And indeed, the other aspects of the game were up to the normal high standards set by previous Atlus games. Good thing I basically buy anything from Atlus these days, or I might have skipped it.

If you're looking for something different from a gameplay perspective (particularly in this type of genre), and/or you're an Atlus fan, definitely recommend checking it out. Oh but it is Japanesy, anime crap with no dudebros, so that might not appeal to some of you. Sorry.

I think there is a demo on XBL/PSN as well, if you're curious about the gameplay.

For anyone that has finished the game, definitely check out the True Catherine ending, if you haven't already. Very funny.

I've never been huge on Japanese-styled games, but this looks too good to pass up. Looks like an out-there game. I'm intrigued.

I read Gamespot's review, and I thought this game was made for RC Cola. Glad you liked it. It definitely sounds interesting.

Puzzle game with romance. Only in Japan.

There actually isn't much "romance gameplay" in the game, compared to their previous Persona games anyway (i.e., not taking characters out on dates or anything). Though the plot is perhaps a bit of a romantic drama.

But yes, only in Japan do they make games that ask the player "Are you a pervert?" and "Would you marry a robot?" And of course, the answers to these questions could have a huge influence on the direction the story takes (I'm only half-joking).

Bought a copy of the deluxe edition at frys but it's just another title to add to the backlog. I am very surprised it's Atlus' most successful released, but maybe with the acclaim of their latest portables (radiant historia on nds has a big following) they've built up a lot of momentum.

Qbert probably is one of the few games I'd use to describe it. Still a little different, but has some similarities.

OK, this has nothing to do with Catherine (sorry OP), but I'm posting it anyway.

Apparently this was revealed a while back, but I had no idea since I guess I don't really pay attention to anime stuff:

    I wants it.

edit: I know there was some other Persona anime. But this interests me a lot more...probably due to the connection to these specific characters.

Yes. I was playing off the fact that I was driving my own thread off-topic (which I do quite often actually). So I thought I'd show enough decency to apologize to myself.

    (don't ask)

OMG. I feel so sorry for all those women.

"I'm gay so I'm not at all interested."
"Oh, that wasn't an option in the game!"

    Lol.

2:00 I thought the dude was gonna paste him.

    Sick ass humor Mega64 has.

I knew when he was basically digging up complaints like "what audience is this game for?" that it must not have been too bad of an experience for him. I haven't checked out many of his recent reviews, but from his past reviews, you really can tell a difference in the "good" games vs "bad" games (even when both are "negative"). Although I will say that the reviews for bad games are usually more enjoyable.
