I feel the next couple of weeks are crucial to whether we make the playoffs and whether we keep the dream...

    1) playoffs:what do you all think?
2)at what point can we pack it in?...
3)there is a mental point and a mathematical point..usually the mental breaking point comes earlier when do you suppose that is?

i am bold and also havent put any money down so i will predict a 9 game win streak with us going down against portland on the 26th of feb...i still hold out hope that we make the playoffs..

4)so assuming all what i have said what do you suppose our record needs to be over the course of the next 17 games by the 65 game mark to assure hakeem not be shipped and us making the playoffs?...(there is no significance to the 65 game mark but i am putting that as my point)

5)what is the estimated date period to where we give up and possibly deal or waive hakeem?..in other words when would les pull the plug?

6)what is the cutoff date for players to be eligible for playoff teams if we do waive hakeem for a playoff team as per the alexander agreement and related to my question above?

looks like we have min twice and SA once DAl twice utah twice..

7)anyone know how those teams schedule looks?easy/ difficult? the rest of the conf etc. I know the have strength of schedule reports from nba junkies and guys like you all may know...

i know this is a common question and a been there done that thread but what do you think as of today...thanks guys..

Funny on ESPN they showed that Portland
    was 25-5 against the East
We were next at with something like 16 - 3

Looks like Portland Padding their lead on the
east and will just now start getting to the
    MEAT of the west.

a good number of back to back to back games
against some good teams. . .maybe they will
    falter.

I think what we look for is the top half
BEAT THE CRAP out of the second half
[1-4 beating up on the NOW 5-8]
While we play consistant and maybe get a
    few surprises
If we can beat 5-8 while 1-4 beats 5 -8
that is about 2~3 loses for each of the 5-8 from us alone . . .
and about another 8~12 from the 1-4
that is some serious ground gain.

This is the time where I predicted a streak. I think it may end with the game versus Minnesota, but if we can pull out a win there, I see no reason why we can't beat Portland and cruise until our game versus Milwaukee or really blow this league up and win all the way until we play San Antonio on the 17th of March.

OK, I'm dreaming because we play Minnesota on the end of a back to back in 2 weeks.

    Seriously...

    1) I still believe we can make the playoffs. We couldn't be in a better position schedule wise.

    2) If we are 4-5 games out on April 1st, I think we're done. Our last 8 games are against Western Conference with matchups against Denver, Seattle, Dallas and Minnesota. We would have to win at least 6-7 of those last 8 games to have a chance.

    3) Mid-way through March. If we aren't winning games(at least 14-15 out of 20) come that time, we're done.

    4) Figuring I think they need to win at least 14-15 of the next 20 to make a push, they must pull out 12-14(much closer to 14) of the next 17.

    5) Les will not make a move until the season is officially over for the Rockets or possibly one game before(if we are eliminated) so that the city and organization can give Hakeem the celebration he deserves. Then again, would we do this for him if he intended to play again next year? Maybe we'll let him go and do the celebration next year like Phili did for Big Sexy.

    6) Not sure. I think they can pick up players not under obligation to any team, at any time. Trades are Feb 22nd or 24th I think.

    7) Go look it up yourself you lazy, hungover bum! [IMG]

Unfortunately, the Rockets are not going to make the playoffs. We have no dependable inside game that can be counted upon every night. The Rockets will live and die by the jump shot until we get inside help, and Cat, Walt, and Shandon just are not consistant enough.

Add Webber and a veteran back up though, and the Rockets can make a run deep into the playoffs next year.

I hope we can still make the playoffs. If we don't, it would be nice to only miss them by like one game and get lucky in the lottery, and get the #1 pick. That would be cool, but unfortunately it only happens for the league's darlings like orlando.

    MoochieRainey?

    LOL!!!

RocketRiver, no doubt Portland has had the benifit of a cushy schedule. Check out my thread in the NBA Forum.

I said it at the beginning of the year and am sticking to my guns...Portland will be a 3rd or 4th seed at best when all is said and done.

1.No way can this team make the playoffs, they don't play defense and are sparodic on offense.

They have the talent, just not the maturity.

    2. They won't pack it in, though I think Rudy has already done it for this year, as he SHOULD have relied on Dream more, but that might have r****ded the growth of Steve and Cat, and Rudy is clearly focused on the future.

    3. The will fight till the end, one of the benefits of being young and stupid, is that you don't ever quit, I hope that continues throughout their careers.

The Rockets went through a first half of the season trying to find themselves. Countless starting lineup changes, countless injuries, countless controversies (Hakeem), etc. We've also played one of the toughest schedule in the league in the toughest conference in recent memory. All of this, and a young team that needs time to grow, and we still somehow with all of those things against us a .500 team!!! We have a GREAT chance-- if we can just take one of these last 2 against Philly and Detroit, and head into the break at 24-26. Look at the schedule for the rest of February-- we should be able to win 5 or 6 in a row after the break easy if we keep our focus. Phoenix, Seattle, and Denver's schedules all get harder; ours gets MUCH easier. And more important than anything-- this is the first time in a while everyone has been 100%. First it was Francis and Cat with the ankle and elbow injuries that lingered. Then Dream with the knee injury, Mo with the flu, Cato all year, etc. We are finally coming together, and if the last two games against top notch opponents are any indication, this team is going to fight to the end, hustling, defending, and giving their all. This team is coming together and slowly starting to gel NOW. I think you will see the Rockets grow a lot in the 2nd half of the season, go on a huge winning streak, get at least 45 wins, and make it to the playoffs that so many of you have little faith in them to reach.

Unfortunately DaDakota, I agree with you, no existent defense may get us by against the Eastern Conderence teams but against the West no way, and remember we still haven't removed the bug from the system that allows us to los to the Clips and other poo pie teams.

Add a Front Court Banger and Intimidator and Maybe next year

The only problem that we have with reaching the playoffs it that we need a big winning streak. Thats about the only thing we haven´t been able to do this season.

I don´t konow why, but it could be that the teams we have met so far this season have just been to good for us to be a winning team.

It could be that we are a young team, but that should really just motivate you more to go out and give everything every night in my opinion.

It could be that the players do not have enough confidence in their abilities. We know they like to read the internet so maybe our bashing really gets to them!!! (or maybe not)

All I know is that I will be routing for them to go all the way this year, and why not!

Imagine Dream ending his career with another championship, to finally step down and handing the team over to the "new Dream" Steve Franchise. A guy can dream.

I agree that there is still a chance, albeit slim. If the Rockets do break off a good streak after the break (and don't lose to crappy teams, like the Clips), then they have a good chance. A plus to this is that if we do make the playoffs, it means that we will have to start playing at peak performance towards the end of the season, putting us in a good situation to play spoiler for the top seeded team.

I think that the Nuggets peaked a bit too early, and are now going to have difficulty finishing the season up strong.
