How many Americans still think the moon landing was fake?

I met Buzz Aldrin when I was in college and a girl that was in the room had the guts to ask him what he thinks about all the reports saying the moon landing being fake.. Let me put it this way, Buzz likes to talk soooooo much it wouldn’t have mattered if we were asleep he still would have kept telling us "facts" that prove the reports wrong..

Awesome photos, especially the one of the launch pad. I wish we still made those big Saturns. We'd have had that space station built a long time ago. Those of us old enough to remember those days will also remember how much everyone thought we would have done in space by now. That we are practically spinning our wheels is depressing. Bush had a good idea about building a replacement spacecraft for the obsolete shuttle. (yes, he's had one or two) It appears that with the war, the tax cuts, the deficits, and the shuttle disasters, the NASA budget is not going to increase enough to do what needs to be done. With time, I think the private sector will step in, but for now NASA has to meet it's responsibilities, and we need to give it the money to do just that.

What they get now, as a fraction of the total budget, is just a tinkle in the toilet.
And someday, a big rock is going to have our name on it. We need to be prepared.

I think that the success of the space programs in other countries is a pretty good indication of the U.S. standing in the world.

Dammit, I wanna live on the moon!

Buzz takes guff from no one. If that was a man asking the question, he'd knock him out and proceed to make congress with the man's mother and wife.

    Damn that Chuck Norris...

ALI G: When you went to da moon, was da moon people friendly, or did they scare you?

BUZZ ALDRIN: We had no hopes of finding any life there whatsoever.

ALI G: When is man going to walk on de sun?

BUZZ ALDRIN: It's much too hot on the sun; we can never go there.

ALI G: We could go in de winter, when it's colder.

lol, prepare for what? to send a group of oil drillers into space and land on the rock so they can plant an explosive in its core?

Imagine there was a possibility of creating a method to detect and prevent earthquakes with 100% success. Even if it was a long shot, how much would it be worth to pursue?

The known object with the highest percentage chance of hitting Earth is 1950DA. If a collision occurs, it will occur in the distant future (2880?) but NASA determined the probable effects of a collision. Here is a graphic describing the local effects if it were to hit off the East Coast:

Do you think it might be worth thinking about ways to prevent a 120 to 140 meter wave traveling at 18 km/s from hitting every city on the East Coast?

There are legitimate ways to move an object and the earlier that you learn about it the easier it is to move. The ion engine on Deep Space 1 exerted a thrust equal to the force that the weight of gravity exerts on a sheet of paper. It provided 5 continuous years of acceleration, however, giving Deep Space 1 a cruising speed of 33,000 km/hr.

Recently, NASA's NEAR Shoemaker project proved that it is not only possible, but relatively easy to land a probe on an asteroid. In fact, the asteroid landed on Eros which has a nearly identical orbit to the orbit of 1950DA. Combine NEAR and an Ion Engine and...

Obviously an asteroid is much heavier than Deep Space 1. But the engine in DS1 was a prototype. Take 20 high power versions of the engine, face them down on the surface of the asteroid, and apply constant thrust. Over the course of 10 or 20 years the force could be significant enough depending on the asteroid. Even more extended foreknowledge and the chances are greater.

This is just one of the many feasible methods that can be yours if you don't rely on crappy science fiction movies as the only source of scientific possibility.

If you care for more here is a discussion by people who examine such issues for a living.

I, personally, will not start to worry until 2800.

Truman: "Whistlin dixie! I want this sent to Area 51 for study!"

General: "But Sir! That's where we're building our fake moon landing set."

Truman: "Then we'll have to really land on the moon. Invent NASA and tell them to get off their fannies!"
