BREAKING: The Oklahoma City Thunder trading All-Defensive wing Lu Dort to the Atlanta Hawks in a three-team deal that sends three second-round picks to OKC, former No. 1 pick Zaccharie Risacher to the Dallas Mavericks and Ryan Nembhard to Atlanta, sources tell ESPN.

Oklahoma City has now acquired seven second-round picks this offseason, shed $224 million in payroll and tax and positioned themselves comfortably under the second apron via the trades of Dort, Isaiah Joe and Aaron Wiggins.

Rather than simply declining Dort's $17.7 million team option to save the money, the Thunder picked it up, acquired three future assets, created a $17M trade exception and place their 2025 championship stalwart in position for a new long-term deal in Atlanta which was not viable in OKC.

Mavs just get Hawks #1 pick for free.

this is why Stone is a **** gm. Never involved in anything. Mavs going to dominate for years with Masai Ujiri

I never understood him being drafted so high. All his pre draft highlights were of him hitting wide open shots and very little else. Never creating a thing. I was very glad the rockets didn’t spend a high draft pick on him

Imagine if Risacher ended up with us instead of Reed. This fanbase would be arsoning Fertitta's mansion.

Rockets could have traded for Dort instead of dump Dorian Finney-Smith with those 3 second round picks.

Risacher had that Wemby French bump for #1. After a couple seaons, Hawks says 'no mas'.

Note 1: there was a GM change.
Landry Fields was the GM that drafted him. Replacement GM Onsi Saleh trades Risacher.

Note 2: Tim Bontemps recently joined the Hawks (from ESPN), likely Bontemps also had a small vote agreeing on pulling the trigger.

    FYI
    Atlanta Hawks
    • Sent:
      • Zaccharie Risacher (to Dallas)
      • 2031 Second-Round Pick (most favorable to OKC)
      • 2032 Second-Round Pick (most favorable to OKC)
    • Received:
      • Lu Dort (from Oklahoma City)
      • Ryan Nembhard (from Dallas)
    Dallas Mavericks
    • Sent:
      • Ryan Nembhard (to Atlanta)
      • 2027 Second-Round Pick (originally from Chicago, to OKC)
    • Received:
      • Zaccharie Risacher (from Atlanta)
    Oklahoma City Thunder
    • Sent:
      • Lu Dort (to Atlanta)
    • Received:
      • Three future second-round draft picks (two from Atlanta, one from Dallas)

Hawks got two ready-now players in Dort and Nembhard, and they also paid couple 2nd rounders to move off of Risacher.

    Thunder saved money.

    Dallas - meh

Thank you very much for this!

Can someone tell me why multi-team NBA trade details always mention what each team receives but (almost) never what they give up? You need both to accurately form an opinion on how trade participants are affected.

My conclusion is all 3 teams benefitted.

They gave up on him last season after the ASB and won 80% of their games afterward. It was clear he had no future there.

IIRC, he had a really impressive scoring stretch on his euro team a couple of months before that draft. It was perfectly timed to inflate his NBA potential.

Stone is such a **** GM - OKC is shedding talent, has to, because of taxes, and the Rox are not in there trying to get something.

KOC might not be wrong here, this is a preemptive move to get a bigger and more productive wing....

    And develop younger players.

It shapes up well for all concerned.

    The Mavs stole Risacher.
