I'm a fan of Kessler, but "significantly more" than 5yrs/$140M after playing only 5 games last season? Thing is, he knows the Jazz need him because JJJ does not rebound and also gets in foul trouble way too often.
Isaiah Hartenstein makes the same annual amount, on a 3 year contract instead of Kessler's 5 year offer. That's probably right where Kessler should be. With Hartenstein being a slight overpay. Demanding "much more", is a bit too much IMO. But he might get the Jazz to cave
And some people on this board claim Jabari is overpaid and/or Amen should get a contract similar to Jabari’s…
He's missed too many games to even be worth that amount (if it was guaranteed money), let alone more than that. If he'd been healthy I can see it.
I will sign up for 5 year / $1 million deal right now and be more than good. I guess his retirement lifestyle is going to require a couple of islands.
A lot of risk - but a lot of upside too with Kessler. He is a top tier rebounder and shot blocker right now. He is a very good defender - but capable of being even better. The numbers are a little rough, but he has shown some ability to shoot from the perimeter.
Define significantly more. Right now he is being offered $28,000,000 a season. The Rockets offered Tari Eason over $100,000,000 Combined - Adams and DFS make $27,000,000 Jabari Smith makes 5/130 and I would rather have Kessler at 5/140 My guess is that Kessler gets over 30 million a season because he makes a massive difference defensively, is possibly the best shot blocker in the world and is a top tier rebounder. There is always risks associated with a man the size of Kessler, but at 24 and with his work ethic - I think he gets a lot, he was showing the ability to get to the perimeter defensively when needed.
After hearing what Kessler had to say, I'm 99% confident an agreement will be reached. Maybe for a little more than the current offer. IMO, he knows it would be a huge mistake to "bet on himself" with that much money on the table.
