In 2023, the Saints traded away HC Sean Payton and the 2024 third-round pick (Jonah Elliss, EDGE) to the Broncos. In return, the Bronco sent the 2023 first-round pick (Bryan Bresee, DT) and the 2024 second-round pick (Kool-Aid McKinstry, CB) to the Saints. Looking back, how do you evaluate this trade? (Some felt Broncos overpaid to get Payton as they could have gotten other available coaches for free.)
My answer: The Broncos definitely have no regrets and the Saints probably don't either. Broncos needed a take-the-bull-by-the-horns "jerk" (to outsiders) to come in and completely blow up and reset the culture of the organization. It also helps when the guy knows what he's doing and understands how to earn buy-in from players. Same thing happened last year within the Seahawks with Mike Macdonald, but was probably even harsher.
