Good luck with that, he’s the biggest disappointment so far in these finals. Provides little to zero rim protection, not hitting his threes, not being physical around the basket.

Yea don't understand this and also don't understand some CFers infatuation with Myles Turner either. He's not a difference maker and $30m/yr is disgusting.

NBA fans still haven't adjusted their expectations when it comes to current day salaries.

30 million is not reserved for elite impact players anymore. Next season 30 million will make him the 61st highest paid player in the league.

The Pacers have been the best team in the NBA behind Boston and OKC since the new year, and they are 3 games away from a title and Turner has been a huge part of that. Given they are already capped whether he makes 20 million or 30 million means nothing aside from costing the owner money.

He earned that extension just for the Halloween costume he and his wife pulled off. @Jontro

Make it to the Finals, get paid.

Could you imagine the extensions we would be looking at for Fred, Jabari and Tari right now if the Rockets were in the Finals?

And it should be that way.

Teams gotta reward players on their winning teams.

He's been an important part of their team for a long time and still has good years in front of him. Because of annual salary cap increases, in a couple of years, $30M per will be no big deal and he'll be easily tradeable if the Pacers want to move on from him. They cannot afford let him walk away for nothing this summer.

There was a time on CF when there was a debate on whether Miles Turner was better than Clint Capella. lol

They aren't talking extension yet, as far as I have seen.

This is just stated in response to the allegation that this team as it is now constructed must be blown up, since Turner will be a free agent, signing him would put the Pacers into the luxury tax, and the Pacers have ALWAYS IN THE PAST avoided all luxury taxes.

Basically, it thwarts the story line that this Finals appearance is some sort of farewell tour.

As to the $30M number, that seems to be the market set with free agent bigs like Hartenstein, who arguably is a somewhat lesser player and got a three-year, $87 million deal ($29M/per)

As to the crazy allegation someone made that Turner provides "no rim protection", in the regular season he was 2nd in the league in blocked shots per game at 2.2, Edey led with 2.5. His career average is 2.2. His average this postseason is 2.2. He has consistently been one of the league's top shot blockers.

    edit:
He has also consistently been one of the league's top 3-point shooting full-time centers

In fact, the rim protection & floor spacing skills are what led the Pacer to keep Turner over Sabonis. Sabonis is a weaker defender, has limited range, and no rim protection. The flip side is he's a great rebounder, plays with high IQ, and is a better passer. I think the Pacers made the right choice,Turner over Sabonis, particularly considering Turner's ability to mesh with Siakam (who they got later in trade). sabonis and Siakam would battle for the same floor space.

Hartenstein (2 yrs younger) had a better Win Share and PER this year than Myles.....and he averages 2x more Assists than Turner.

6.5 rebounds to 10.7 rbounds per game.

Turner has better scoring stats overall and is a shooter to Hartenstein not being a shooter but OKC would not be a defensive juggernaut without Hartenstein and Caruso, that one point is clear.

Hartenstein way upped his game this year. He has a career average of 6.4 rebounds per game vs. 5.4 for Turner, so at the time he signed the contract it was not reasonably expected that he's get 10.7 rebounds per game. Last year as a starter he got 8.3.

His career scoring average is 6.8 ppg with a carer high at the time he signed of 8.3 ppg, so 11.2 ppg this year is also a nice bump.

In 10 years Turner has averaged 14.1 ppg, and about 17 ppg over the past 3 years.

Bottom line is that the non-shooter / weaker rim protector Hartenstein (0.9 blocks/g) wouldn't fit in as well with the Pacers as Turner does, and the weaker rebounder / worse position defender Turner wouldn't fit in as well with the Thunder as Hartenstein does

Paying someone 29 million for not biatching about playing time, getting 11 rpg, 1.1 blocks, 0.8 steals.....ain't that bad.

He isn't weaker, rim protection is also altering shots and making people work in the post.....also he is pretty great screener and passer.

And additionally not that bad when switching onto the Perimeter.
