You truly are the gift that keeps on giving Your replacements repeatedly try their best to bungle it, but you were the greatest baseball GM of the 21st century and did all you could to dummy proof the future You are welcome back any time As Pena's breakout season catches the eye of scouts around the league, the question becomes whether the Stros give him a 10 year, $300/350 million contract at age 30 or plan ahead for a trade/replacement It's hard to make a long term commit when you've got Altuve for 5 more years at $25 per and struggling to provide value at 35 There needs to be a way to increase revenue so the Astros don't keep missing out on homegrown talent... for every dud like Correa and Springer who were rightfully let go, you have Bregman's, Cole's, Tucker's who are championship pieces
sadly pena won't get a 10yr offer from the astros. 6-7 years at most seeing how pena is closing in at 30yrs old. if pena does leave, don't be surprised Matthews will be pena's replacement.
I think he sees a 6 year as settling, even if it's $180 or $200 mil. The league views Pena in a higher light and someone will cough up 10 years, $300 mil if he stays close to his current level. He really has improved on his weaknesses this season.
If Pena continues like this he will get a huge deal from one of the 5 or 6 usual suspects. I could also see Pena staying in Houston because he wants to be here. He is comfortable here. It will be interesting to see if he stays at this level and how the Astros handle it.
Unfortunately, I think he'll be gone. Correa, Springer, Bregs...they don't hand out those deals unless guys sign early like Yordan. Bregs loved it here too but money talks
Money talks to those who love money. And the wide gate and broad way are far more popular than the strait gate and the narrow way 1 Timothy 6:10 For the desire of money is the root of all evil, for which some - while lusting after it - have erred from the faith and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. Matthew 7:13-14 “Enter in at the strait gate. For it is the wide gate and broad way that leads to destruction. And many go in there. “Because the gate is strait and the way narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it.
So true!!! Luhnow has been gone for 5 years and a lot of the players the Astros brought under his watch are the superstars the Astros are fielding today. The following is a list of guys brought in under Luhnow’s GM tenure who’ve contributed this season: Peña Brown Framber Abreu Myers Alvarez McCormick Altuve McCullers Blanco Gusto Dubin Whitley Salazar That is 14 players contributing and being instrumental in what the Astros are doing in 2025. Luhnow was legendary good, granted he had a viable scouting team, but it is my understanding that GM have to sign off on all acquisitions.
Let's understand that Bregman has yet to prove he's worth his new contract (and over 6+ years down the road) and Tucker will be massively inflated on his contract taking away that teams ability to effectively win another ring. Cole went to the Yankees and has done well but that contract would've crippled the Astros.
