seems like a trade request could be coming. Rockets should get in on the action Green plus for Mitchell.
What's funny about this idea is the Cavs' trade for Mitchell may be a good case study as to what can happen when a team takes its "big swing" too early.
Regardless of whether fans here think he's worth it or not, the Rockets are most certainly going to put in a competitive offer if he does get on the market this summer, and has wink-wink agreed that he will sign a max contract next offseason.
Bingo Which, I don't blame teams like Cavs, Kings, etc. Players aren't lining up to go there so it makes sense. Houston might not be LA, but we've signed top free agents or have had players agree to wanting to come here.
Donovan Mitchell has 1 year and PO he will definitely decline, and people want to trade for him… insane 1st off, he’s not that guy. He’s a nice scorer, and that’s it. 2nd, I’m not trading for anyone about to hit free agency who hasn’t given assurances that he’d re-sign. 3rd, even if Donovan Mitchell said he wanted to be in Houston long-term, it would no doubt be on a max deal, and I’m good on that. Aside from him just not being worth it, he has missed 19, 15, 14, and 27 games the past 4 years. 4th, he’s straight up boring to watch for me, and I do watch for entertainment as well as for wins and other things.
We have the best package by a long shot but trading for Mitchell means trading Jalen Green. I don’t know if I want to give up on Jalen for essentially what could be a one year rental.
28 year old 6'1 soft tweener guard... he's better than what we have, but why not just draft Sheppard?
If it was Green for Mitchell strait up, then I would go for it (no picks). But what I dont want to do is mortgage all our draft capital for what might be a one year rental.
If Mitchell wants to go to Brooklyn, the nets have the assets to get him, and frankly it doesn’t matter if Houston can beat their offer because he’ll ultimately control where he resigns and no one is going to give up big time assets for a 1-yr rental. We have to be prepared for those future nets picks/swaps not to be in the lotto going forward. I’m not saying we should be in a hurry to trade them, but Brooklyn could very well trade for a difference-making player this summer, that significantly reduces the value of those picks. It’s a legit possibility. These guys aren’t just gonna sit on their hands.
