$32 Million in Expiring Contracts at the Deadline (Yao, Battier, Jeffries)

    Yao Ming: $17,686,100
    Shane Battier: $7,354,500
    Jared Jeffries: $6,883,800

    Total: $31,924,400

If come February we're still on this losing pace and Yao is still injured plagued, we definitely have assets to improve the team. I'm confident a team like Golden State, Clippers, Knicks with large Asian populations would take on Yao's expiring contract. Battier would be a hometown hero in Detroit or Charlotte, while Jeffries would be welcome in Indiana and so forth. Of course there is still the option of keeping those players with hopes that they re-sign with us for less next year and saving money there. I think Morey's phone will be ringing quite a bit as we approach the trade deadline.

    Should he:

-Keep the players and resign them for cheap next season?
-Use their contracts to bring in new talent?

Depends on if the team can turn it around

If we have the ability to trade any of the 3 above for anything that would improve us at all I say you have to do it.

We are destind for rebuilding mode with this roster, the faster we realize that the quicker we will be relevant again.

I don't see any benefit to resigning really any of the players. They are all againg and digressing fast. They would only take away playing time from younger players who need real game time to develop.

I dont know why? I feel Yao Ming is a huge trading chip they wont use. Even if not healthy his contract expiring and possibly a team resigning him on the cheap could be exactly what other teams want. I think the most valuable players we have are Brooks and Battier. Removing Yao because he seems like they wont move him regardless.

You're assuming we'd trade for additional role players...

If we're improved by then and Yao is surging then Shane and JJ NEED to be moved as part of a deal but if we are still struggling then EVERYONE is movable, including Yao. I would look to acquire a pick somewhere and young players but I expect something big to happen at the deadline.

I don't think any of the teams you've named are parting with their superstar level talent if they do hold any.

Why does it always have to be superstar or bust with the clutchfans? Cant we just upgrade a few guys while shedding some salary and then add the Superstar later when we have a team they want to come to? I dont understand the waiting to exhale mantra among the GARM. As if we have some sort of perennial championship contenders or something.

The Rockets are 3-8 and it doesn't look like the 'Win-Now' plan is working out.

I'm moving away from the idea of trading expirings and taking on even more long term contracts unless the player is definitely a game changer. Before the season everyone thought the Rockets were not far away from being a contender. THEN it made sense to use the trade assets to get another player to put them over the top.

Now I think unless the team has a huge turnaround soon, they should just hold on to the expirings, young talent and extra picks and get an early start on the rebuilding.

Because we've been running on scrub....uhhh hardworker mode while our main guns are out from yearly injuries.

Without a superstar(s) to build around (in our case, to consistently play with), we have no identity.

It really depends on how we perform. The start has been rough clearly. I love Yao but he's been injury proned throughout his career. There isn't anything I would want for the Rockets from any of those teams. I would obviously do Stoudamire for Yao other than that I don't see much. The last thing we need is another gaurd even though Stephan Curry and Monte Ellis are great players it doesn't make sense for a trade like that. NY really has nothing to offer aside from Stoudamire. And I doubt the Clippers would be willing to give up Blake Griffen, I may take Cris Kaman if he still plays for them, lol.

Rockets can resign Yao with MLE, Battier with LLE, and Jeffries with a vet minimum, then we still have around $24 M for a superstar. It sounds good.

I just can't fathom Yao being shipped out.

It's looking like Morey made a rare goof matching Lowry.

He swung for the fences this summer.... but no one was pitching.

It may be time to start selling our main guys and look to rebuild through the draft. You have to have a star to build around, and we have nobody beyond "good 2nd option"

Which could result in collecting more role players or be the equiv. of this off-season's Knicks who went all in in the LeBron sweepstakes.

Looking at the Rockets salary situation I think they should go all in on short term (1 or 2 more year contracts) big time vets. Rockets either go all the way winning or all the way down to get that top 5 draft pick. No one of this safely in the middle rubbish.

Yao needs to be shipped out town ASAP. Hell, if all else let him expire. He has absolutely sucked the life out of this franchise (not purposely, but god damn he's ruined us).

There is no superstar out there to trade for. All of them are finding new places and or are winning where they are at. You have to draft one. And you have to go 'all in' on drafting one.

Get M.Gasol at the deadline or in a SnT.
