I've said this over and over but it's no coincidence all 13 losses have been with Maldonaldo catching and they are undefeated when Yainier Diaz or Salazar catch.

...as a player. I wouldn't mind if Maldy becomes bench coach and Espada moves up when we push Baker to his winery.

You have a lot of patience if you are only now getting tired of Maldonado. He has not been any good for the last few years. No metric supports his use. The metrics show that the pitchers are better when he doesn't call the games. He is horrible offensively. He is not a good defender. He doesn't control the running game.

You have to go back to Luis Pujols to find a comparably atrocious catcher that was a multi year starter for the Astros.

Maldy is a waste of a roster space. Diaz can be just as "valuable" as Maldy.

For a franchise that has been one of baseball's most successfull over the past 40 years, that's a pretty gross list

Edwards, McCann, Castro, Ausmus, Pudge, Biggio were all all-stars at some point in their careers... grantred only Ausmus, Biggio, and McCann weren't washed when in Houston.

We are known for our second basemen....
    • Biggio-14
    • Altuve-11
    • Morgan-8
    • Doran-8
    • Helms-3
    • Matsui-2
    • Kent-2
    • Howe-2
    • Amalfitano-1
    • Andrews-1

I don't like when my alarm clock goes off in the morning but I'm 99.9998% certain humans will not be able to manipulate time in my lifetime. I don't like Maldy as the primary starter, but we all knew it was 99.9999% certain Maldy would be the primary starter this year no matter how bad he was. Dusty can always go to his "the pitchers prefer him" card. So, don't get to upset over things that are certainties in life.

We found out Maldy was dealing with injuries last year, but he kept quiet. I think he knows that if he goes down with an injury then his replacement will show why they should be the primary catcher. He may be inured now and he'll just play through it to the detriment of the team.

That's what I think, Maldy is extremely protective of his everyday status because he knows what will happen if another competent MLB catcher gets an extended look.

Once our pitchers spend some time throwing to somebody else regularly they will realize they never really needed him to begin with. He's been basically the only MLB catcher for our young latin pitchers, like a warm blanket. Just because an athlete "likes" playing with another player doesn't mean they are actually better with them (Harden/Westbrook)

I don't doubt it - but from what I have consistently been told, the pitchers will have Maldonado's back.

So I think it will take a bad injury or a trade for someone like Salvador Perez.

I do know that the Astros would be foolish to trade Maldy to a team they could face in the playoffs.

With 2 potential young starting pitchers coming up, I hope Dusty give Diaz another start with the new pitcher.
