The next steps in our growth will be the Free Agents this summer.
I mean we could try for buyouts but doubt we find anything there
    Then the Draft .

How much money will we have to play with this off season?

We of course will have to decide who to keep.

I’d honestly just punt on free agency or hand out 1 year deals until we have an actual core in place that we want to start building around

we don’t have much money anyways

Next year may be a 60 loss season, hopefully Wall can be moved at some point next year and we strike big in both the 21 and 22 drafts ... then we can see what we have and start thinking about finishing the foundation. This summer we are still tearing down, not even rebuilding yet.

If you liked this season's tank season, you'll love next season's 82 game, not even going to pretend, keep our pick in any event tank season. Also there's going to be more fans in arenas to laugh at us.

Bima is right, we're better off operating over the cap so we have our NTMLE and harden TPE.

I'd overpay young prospects to bring them in. we don't need the 25, 26, 27 year olds. I'm looking at the 21 and under group of RFAs and I'm focusing on THT and Bol Bol.

I think the NTMLE is similar to a top 3 pick or so? THT is still only 20 and if he were in the draft would probably be a top lotto pick. Why not take the chance at that price for a few years. The lakers are in win now mode and would not match. Same thinking for Bol.

They don't have to be worth their contract right now, but there are benefits of overpaying them just to bring them in. 1. that money isn't going to any good veteran, they don't want to come here. 2. THT or Bol are young enough to be on the same timeline as our rookies from 2021-2023. 3. show we believe in them early on by offering a big contract, big minutes and big usage, hopefully they will have some loyalty when it comes time to resign while every other FA seems to be seeking out.

we are in a new group of franchises and have to adjust our strategy.

there are 3 ways to rebuild a team. through the draft, through FA, and through trades. contenders and destination franchises can rely on bringing players in through FA and trades. they don't need draft picks. middle of the road teams can't get new max FAs but can overpay to keep their own FAs or trade to and keep that guy. small markets or bottom barrel teams can't bring in a FA, can't hold onto their own FAs, can't get a player to stay after they trade for them, so the draft is their only way to get high quality players under long term contracts for 4 years.

we were in the contending tier in 2018 and 2019 when if we traded for a max guy we could resign him, and we could bring in a guy for the MLE who was probably worth more than that. I think we skipped over the middle tier and now are in the bottom barrel. no players will come in unless we overpay a vet on a 1 year deal. no players will resign unless we overpay.

so what's the best use of our cap space? Take on bad money and charge draft picks like the thunder, and overpay young guys like THT and Bol to roll the dice on them. This way we can still tank in 2022 and 2023 but use the cap to add picks and young players who are on their way up.

I have zero trust or respect for this organization. Be prepared to draft Sam Bowie.

Yep follow the OKC model and become a dumping ground for bad contracts that don’t extend beyond Wall’s deal.

Also trade Gordon for a pick first opportunity you can. This team needs to completely bottom out for this year and next.

So much depends on if we get a top 4 pick this year. The team should be hyper focused on the draft and accumulating young talent on rookie deals. Then once Wall is off the books you supplement all that talent via FA.

Ideally you’d have lotto picks 21, 22, 23, and KPJ and whatever other young guys are still around. Then big FA vet and then all those Brooklyn picks should pay dividends adding more young cheap talent.

Have to be patient and play the long game.

its wise to leave space open so you can absorb bad contracts for the assets.

If the clippers don't win the chip this year, we will have a chance to get Kawhi(small chance but still a chance), Demar Derozan, and Andre Drummond.
The draft will depend on where we fall in terms of the picks we have.
We should have $30-$50 Ms to play with. That should be enough for 2 big contracts for elite players.
Pretty much everybody that has an expiring contract should be gone in my personal opinion.
We need elite players and specialist(Defense and shooters). Add that to guys that will remain with the team and it should be a really good team.
Easier said than done. But we can make that **** happen.

I am not sure if a team's future has ever depended more on a draft pick than this team right here. If they keep their pick then I think they, objectively, should have 5-6 "pieces" (top 4 pick, KPJ, Wood, Tate, KMart and 1 of the other two first round selections which allows for a miss) to build around for next season. You supplement that core with guys like Nwaba, Brown and Augustin and, unfortunately, Wall and Gordon and you have a team that can atleast not be laughed off the court. You wont be making the playoffs but you can be competitive and if Cade/Mobley/Kuminga/Green/Suggs is as good as advertised you can ride that excitement and be pretty successful despite not being a great team (the hype train a la Zion or Lamelo for example). You then supplement that team with 3 more first rounders in the 2022 draft (including the Rockets own lottery pick) and add a free agent or make a trade using Wall/Gordan's expiring deals and now you are talking contention. And you still have the possibility of getting lucky with Brooklyn's picks too. Not at all guaranteed, maybe not even likely, but that is a path to being pretty damn good in a pretty short time.

The alternative is nightmarish. At best the Rockets combine the Miami pick, Portland pick and Milwaukee pick to move up for a James Bouknight or Kai Jones swing for the fences. Next season is no better than this year and there is nothing to point at for hope. Fertitta mandates that draft assets are moved to acquire players that dont move the needle. Those players leave at their first opportuinity. Wood signs with LAL to be part of the LBJ farewell tour with AD and KPJ joins Harden. Fertitta, his yacht having been repossessed, sells to buyer's from Seattle but the NBA refuses to allow a move so ownership puts the worst product they can on the court until the league finally relents. Houston has no NBA team. O rmaybe the nightmare is just that the Rockets flail for a decade playing horrible basketball always selling the fans on being a player away from being a player away...

Oladipo will be a free agent. If the rockets can get him back for what cap space they have then they get a free pick swap and will make Pat Riley look like a fool. Everyone on the Jump will be laughing at the Miami Heat.

If that doesn't fall through(don't know why), Cousins should be healthy by then. Pair him up with John Wall and have some fun.

lol...tweet literally says 12-14 mil if they don’t get a top 4 pick, renounce Bradley, and let their free agents walk, and you’re still talking about how we’ll have 60 mil in space

Do u think John Wall will be a free agent or something?
