He is considered an even better X's and O's coach and brighter than Nurse.

Finch really wanted the Rockets job but didn't get it because he rubs some people the wrong way.

Vanterpool was Blazers assistant from 2012-2019.

That roster is broken and missed Towns the first 20 games and now lost Russell for 4-6 weeks for knee surgery. It was assumed they were holding both guys out to tank. Now they fire their coach? Good luck.

ah did not know that . I was like Minnesota backcourts ??

still , my statement somewhat applies even to Portland. Of course , CJ can stick up for his old coach .. no problemo

POR has been ****ed by injury luck , limiting success.

Our backcourt Backcourt of James and Patrick was about as good as CJ and Dame and chris finch was here for that ;)

The Rockets should have hired finch when they sacked Kevin McFail in 2016 instead of JB

First, just because a backcourt scores a lot of points doesn't mean it is successful.

The defensive effort and ability of the Blazers backcourt is horrendous and it is why the Blazers have never been a threat to do anything.

Second, everyone likes Vanderpool and always has, but he really hasn't been statistically successful.

He gets interviews with teams because he is considered a very good leader and he knows basketball.

Vanderpool would have been a fine hire, and he would likely improve the Timberwolves.

However, Finch has certainly paid his dues. He has been a coach in the NBA or the G-League for over a decade.

Finch is considered an exceptional coach at making in game adjustments and he is viewed as an offensive elite mind.

Finch also has a long history in the G-League which is where most of what is happening in the NBA came from.

He hasn't gotten a head coaching job to this point and has bounced around because he can be abrasive.

From what I have heard he isn't always diplomatic and some of his ideas can be radical. He can be very blunt.

He can design and run just about any offense and he is a coach that doesn't force his players to adapt to his system, he designs a system for them. He found a way to get AD and Cousins to coexist and thrive.

It will be interesting to see how he handles the Wolves. There are some soft players on that team, and Finch isn't above letting them know they won't get minutes if they don't play hard.
