“Narrative” essentially amounts to player with elite MVP numbers, elite individual defense, and on team with best record getting the most MVP votes the last two seasons.

Might that narrative repeat itself a third season for Giannis? Yes, possibly. Based on early season returns, it is looking highly unlikely. And the counter narrative of multiple playoff disappoints will also weigh more and more against him, whether that’s fair or not.

 

Won't happen. The shine has worn off on him. He'll need to improve some part of his game to get people back on his side - he either needs to get much better in the post or at shooting (I recommend he focuses on post scoring cuz the shooting thing ain't happening for him). Also, he MUST get his FT% higher.

 

The same narrative that boosted him in 2019 over Harden and defaulted it to him last year will take it away from him this year, even if he has the best year ever.

That's the way MVP's work, they are used to reward and punish who deserves reward and punishment.

What you're saying (and what you've said, IIRC) is that we shouldn't be upset about the story-making/popularity aspect as long as he meets the minimum bar of competency - or really even mention it.

Come on it doesn't work that way, we don't follow NBA for that reason. We do it to have opinions.

 

Giannis should have 1 MVP at most. A 3rd would only mean none of the judges are watching the same games we are.
