If you sign enough bottom of the barrel players and force them to compete, at least one of them will be good enough to make the rotation, right? Right? In all seriousness, though, I'm not that worried about the Rockets' depth at this point. But it is funny how many random guys Stone has signed in the last couple of weeks. I get the young guys and wanting to develop more young players for the future, but Grant? Dude is 28 and has spent his whole NBA career fighting to get minutes for bad basketball teams. Not sure how much they expect from a guy like that.
Well we got the crappy Grant in the family. In all honesty this isn't a surprising signing at all because the Rockets need a point guard that can protect the ball and create for others. Grant hasn't played a lot of minutes in the NBA and there are solid reasons why he hasn't. Negatives: Grant is not someone that is going to finish explosively as a trailer or as a dunker. He has a below average vertical jump and he does not handle physical play inside well. He isn't a great shooter from the outside. When given minutes he shoots "okay" from 3 but he isn't someone you want to load up on shots. While he isn't a bad guy, he is known as stubborn and that has hurt his career. He needs to get stronger. Terrible shooter outside or layups and 3's. Positives: He is 6'4" with a nearly 6'9" wingspan. He has good lateral quickness and can get around flat footed defenders. He is very good at protecting the ball and is an above average creator for other people. He is very good at the pick and roll. He has all the tools to be a good defender if he gains more core strength. He is very effective in transition both offensively and defensively. With his size he can switch well or play drop coverage.......... which is important because the Rockets are going to play switch and drop coverage with Will Weaver and Silas coaching the defense.
You are telling me there’s a chance we may have more than a six man rotation? Make sure the equipment manager finds a chair for Tucker, he may actually get to rest this year.
I wish we had Shaq Harrison instead, but Jerian brings some experience. Nook is right, he is skinny and can get hurt quite easily.
