Surprised Tucker is a finalist... https://finance.yahoo.com/news/2020-rawlings-gold-glove-award-193000695.html
No kidding. As the saying goes, "Youre only in the running for a Rawlings Gold Glove if you have a good bat."
The article says it's based on analytic data, not individual voting. The numbers apparently say they were all elite at their positions. No extra bonus for "style points".
So the balls reddick dive for, tucker takes a questionable route but stays on his feet. Cant teach speed.
Tucker is fine. He’s not a GG outfielder, and he won’t win, but he’s plenty capable and is faster than most realize. Straw does not have great defensive instincts, despite his speed. Putting him in CF late in game in the playoffs was more to get Reddick out vs. getting him in.
If Correa wins its likely to make it harder for the Astros to keep him. I'm not mad at three Astros in the running for GG. Especially during our villainous year.
Nobody that matters actually cares about the GG. They know how poorly chosen and meaningless they are. They have actual data to tell them who was good defensively, this won't change that.
Gordon and Yuli's bro are the other nominees in LF. Gordon is old and busted. Yuli's bro is playing LF because it is the place to get his bat to play that his glove does the least harm besides DH. Tucker should win GG easily over those two. He should easily be viewed as an exceptional defender at a position that is used to hide bats without gloves. I'm surprised he got nominated as I didn't think anyone would notice in a short season. Tucker is the best defensive LF in Houston since Marisnick was forced to play LF because Fowler was a better hitter.
If Alex Gordon is still one of the other two finalists...then Tucker absolutely belongs in that group. He's the best defensive LF in Houston since they would put Jake in CF, move Springer to RF and put Reddick in Left, about one year ago. He's a better arm than Biggio and better instincts than Carlos Lee. But he's got the talent to get much better, so that's what I expect.

I'm not sure what games Buck is watching, but only one remotely difficult catch for Reddick in LF.
Buck watched all of them (thanks for the 3rd person mention, btw). Buck did not click the links though. Reddick totally dropped off in the field, especially this year. That doesn't make Tucker great. But he could be, and I expect nothing less, or at least solid improvement. All he has to do is perfect his reads, jumps, angles, setting up before the catch/throw (i.e. moving towards the ball and not flatfooted or moving backwards), little things like that.
I don’t have anything to back it up except for the eyeball test, but for whatever reason watching Tucker in the outfield scares the **** out of me. I never dreamed he would be a gold glove candidate.
I am confused as to how whatever metrics they used did not allow for Kiermayer to be a GG candidate in CF. Top 3 in DWAR, 0 errors (along with many), 1st in defensive runs saved and second in assists. Perhaps he got dinged for only playing in 46 games, although Buxton only played in 39.
