suns hire terry porter. pistons promote michael curry. bulls offer job to vinny del negro, who is prepared to accept. no link. just reported on tv (espn).
I've been out of town a lot lately.. can someone tell me what happened to Doug Collins? I thought he was already named the Bulls coach..
Del Negro was the starting shooting guard next to Avery Johnson in the backcourt in the mid-90's during our championship years. He definitely fell off by the time NBA Courtside came out lol. Like many others, I found this hiring odd because I haven't heard the name in years. A new wave of head coaches coming in... it's interesting to see how they will do
the del negro hiring was a shocker to many, but if you think about what the bulls are looking for, it makes sense. first, they fired skiles so they still have to pay him. that means that they don't have (aren't willing to spend) money on another big name coach. that's the reason why they lost d'antoni. so we know they are looking for a cheaper (less experienced) coach. secondly, they were interested in d'antoni's offense. they have a lot of young athletes and think that running is the right way to go. it's also the exact opposite of skiles defensive minded style. with d'antoni being too expensive they look to his bench.
That sounds interesting... it's vital to have a good point guard in that type of offense... so I guess that brings up the question... • Do they keep Hinrich and draft Beasley? Hinrich couldn't hold a Nash's jockstrap... but he showed some signs of brilliance before he kinda fell off last season. But then again, the whole team did... • Or do they draft Rose and trade some of their assets for a big man (cuz Noah, Gooden, and Thomas just won't cut it down low, IMO). I'm looking forward to seeing what they are going to do...
IMHO, I can't see why Avery isn't coaching somewhere, given the openings that were out there...Personality type, offensive scheme, what is it...
