Just read on NBA.com that All-Star Saturday would feature a new 3-on-3 "Hoop It Up" contest, featuring an NBA star, a WNBA star, an NBA legend and a celebrity teaming up (the legend and celeb can sub for one another) to take on another team in an elimination contest.

Why can't they leave the WNBA players out of it??? No offense ladies...if I wanted to watch women play basketball, I'd watch the WNBA(which I do sometimes), but this is the NBA All-Star game. Let the guys go out and have their time.

Just have a normal 3-on-3 or 2-on-2 game with representatives being the best guys who didn't make the All-Star game.

I think it should be 3 from Georgetown on 3 from North Carolina or something like that. Perhaps 3 on 3, ACC vs Big East. All stars can play if they want to. That would be bad ass.

    Yeah, that would be cool.

    Fran Drescher would destroy Cato.

Not a bad idea, but they could so much more with this.

Why not a rep. from the NCAA, another from the NBA and a legend? For kicks they can throw in a celeb to play some spot minutes. This would feature three generations of B-ball stars and no doubt attract a lot of fans. Some purists may not like it because it takes a step toward 'playground' ball but its worth a try.

Or they can have a 2-on-2 or 3-on-3 tourney with simply the best of the current NBA stars playing against each other. Imagine some of the matchups; Kidd-Kobe-Garnett vs. Francis-Vince-Duncan or Allen-Webber vs. Iverson-Nowitzki, etc.

Not that I think sir Stern will allow this but Kobe and Shaq would probably be the best 2-man team. T-mac and Duncan would be the second best. At least we will see these matcups in a couple of years.:)

The NBA was soooo close to adding something really special. I heard this exact idea on the radio(610) I believe a few months ago: 3 on 3 tournament.
The only difference in the one I heard which makes it 10 times better is that it would be hometown teams made of NBA players. For example the Philly team: Kobe, Eddie Jones, Mobley vs. D.C's team: Franchise, etc. Chicago: Garnett, etc.

That would be excellent. The version they will have this year is in the ballpark but not near as exciting with only 1 current NBA star on each team vs. the other.

That idea about hometown teams was desired by the players and the station, but I don't know if the NBA was close to doing it. That Philly team would definitely win if they did it that way. 2-Ball was not good at all. It just tells us how bad some players are at taking open shots.

All I got to say is that the NBA can ruin anything. This could have been a legendary event like a few of the dunk contests. Could you imagine Philly v NYC etc. I'm talking about 3 on 3 with ALL NBA players, not some ****ing WNBA players that NO ONE gives a **** about. NCAA players couldn't play because I'm sure they'd find some way to make them ineligible. Celebrities would be stupid, but old timers would be cool. Anyway, the NBA needs to realize noone wants to see WNBA ho's at an NBA allstar event. They ruined a great idea AGAIn

Disagree...I don't think there are any definites, and if there was one, then it would be New York City.

It would be even better if they had a 1-1 tournament. Francis vs Iverson would be awesome. Wink would cross him up.

I think a 3-3 game is a neat idea. It's kind of like a game of STREET but mixed up.

Franchise, Cat, and Oscar vs Sam Cassell, Ray Allen, and Glenn Robinson. Wink would school Same. Allen and Mobley would be even and Oscar would school Robinson.

You give Mobley too much credit on defense, especially against one of the game's top 2 or 3 shooting guards - and, an underrated one at that.

And as much as I hate the Puppy Dog, I don't think Oscar is quite at his level - yet, lol.

I'd love to see a healthy Grant Hill, Tracy McGrady, and Mike Miller vs Cassell, Allen, and Robinson. Or, perhaps Stojakovic, Bibby, and Webber vs Nash, Finley, and Nowitzki. Keep the matchups even position wise, yet allow for each team's talent to shine.

The hyptothetical Philly team would be much better if you replaced Mobley with Rasheed Wallace. Bryant/Wallace/Jones would be pretty good.
