Chris Wragge is reporting that the Rockets have contaced Mike Dunlevay, Doc Rivers, and Larry Brown. They have not contacted Jeff Van Gundy. Doc Rivers would be a perfect choice for the Rockets.
If experience is still the criteria among the three, Doc is least likely to be chosen. I would go with Larry Brown or Doc Rivers.
I think Doc has a buy out. Man, that would be interesting, Doc Rivers. I get the feeling that if Larry Brown leaves Philly, it won't be to coach another team, but to shut it down for a while. Dunleavy I like the guy, bringing in a former Rocket is a good thing. Don't know much about his coaching skills though.
LOL, more people are awake now I guess. Maybe this will quiet all the JVG rumors. I'd love to see Dunlavy. Keep the tradition of former Rocket players as coaches. Larry Brown would just be a band aid here for a few years. It would also be interesting to see what Doc could do with a TEAM instead of 1 great player and a bunch of stiffs.
I trust the van gundy reports from this board more than junior varsity reporters from channel 2. I disagree on doc rivers, I consider him a downgrade from Rudy. He has never really done anything.
Disagree. He gets the most our of his team. He also has played in the NBA, so he might relate better to his players.
Dunleavy, of the guys without a current contract he's the one with the most successful western conferance coaching experience...
I like Brown or Silas. Dunlevay used to play for us. So he has some history with the Rox. And Doc would be a good PG/SG coach.
Wouldn't it be funny if we hire Brown, Cleveland hires Silas and Van Gundy is left out in the cold because he thought he had a shot at the Rockets job when he might not have?
ESPN had reported that he had but then Van Gundy came out and said no deal. My theory is, he did accept the job but then backed out when the Rockets position opened up.
well he would've beat LA in the 2000 WCF if not for the refs (or a huge collapse by his players in the 4th q of game 7) and most likely would have won the championship over indy. after that, portland kind of fell off and everyone let all of their crazy out (and trader bob brought in even more troubled players) and he finally had to go. maurice cheeks is a cool guy and even he hasn't stopped them from being the jailblazers. so i'd say he was at least on target in his last job, and didn't underachieve. he had a lot of talent and a lot of crazy people and almost got them to the finals while playing the team that won the last 3 titles. i don't know of any horrible negatives to dunleavy and i loved the D portland played on LA that series so i wouldn't mind him coming in, just don't know a whole lot about him. as for doc. i don't know. seems kinda cool but his main claim to fame was almost getting a bunch of scrubs in the playoffs one year. since then he's done little, and he's done it in the east. rudy also used to be known for getting the most out of his players so maybe doc is ready to enter his prime "get bashed by cc.net" years.
Not if you ask for and receive permission. That's assuming Chris Wragge knows anything at all about the reality of what goes on behind closed NBA doors.
