it's the end of the year. time for all those Best Of lists. so. . . what are the bronze, silver and gold medal-winning albums you bought this year? I'll leave it up to you to decide whether they are simply albums you bought this year or albums that were released this year. here are mine: 1) winners never quit -- pedro the lion 2) bleed american -- jimmy eat world 3) satellite rides -- old 97s honorable mention: o brother where art thou soundtrack -- v.a. rockin' the suburbs -- ben folds parachutes -- coldplay renegades -- rage against the machine new favorite -- alison krauss & union station come with me -- r.l. burnside project logic -- d.j. logic songs in A minor -- alicia keys
You're limiting me to 3? I'll be back later with my comprehensive list. We still have a couple of weeks to go in the year...I may find some more good stuff. Good call on the Jimmy Eat World by the way.
to rococco rot and i-sound - music is a hungry ghost The (International) Noise Conspiracy - New Morning Changing Weather The Charlatans UK - Wonderland
Dave Matthews Band's "Lillywhite Sessions" -- the CD they should've released . . . Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals - Live from Mars One Love - the Very Best of Bob Marley and the Wailers
Lemon Jelly - Lemon Jelly Paris by Day/Night - The Ultimate Lounge Collection Works for Me - John Scofield
My favorites: Ben Folds - Rockin' the Suburbs Train - Drops of Jupiter O, Brother Where Art Thou Soundtrack Whew, rough year.
I heard some of that the other day. Do you have A Go-Go? I've loved Scofield since he did Still Warm back in 1988.
Actually Jeff "Works for me" was a Birthday gift from a wise friend. Silly me, I had never listened to any Scofield until then. So, no, I haven't heard A Go Go. Guess that's two more CDs I'm going to have to ask Santa for!
Honestly, I havn't purchased many CDs this year...so I might have to stretch here: Green Day: International Superhits! Nickelback: Silver Side Up POD: Satellite -- If they weren't considered a "Christian" band they would be a critics darling. I like a lot of CDs that were released last year but hit this year...like Moby's Play and Fuel's Something Like Human
Another great year for rock. The past 3 years have been awesome. 1) Lit Atomic 2) Buckcherry Timebomb 3) The Cult Beyond Good and Evil 4) Toadies Hell Below/Stars Above 5) Weezer Weezer 6) American HiFi American HiFi 7) Tesla Replugged Live 8) Jimmy Eat World Bleed American 9) Moke Carnival 10) King's X Manic Moonlight Honorable Mention: Megadeth "The World Needs a Hero" Handsome Devil "Love & Kisses from the Underground" The Newlydeads "Dead End" Poundhound "Pineappleskunk" Halfcocked "The Last Star" Saliva "Every Six Seconds" There are a few I don't have yet ($$$) that maybe could've made the list...I'll hopefully be able to add them in after Christmas. Song of the Year: 1. "I'm a Fool" - American HiFi 2. "Underneath" - Buckcherry 3. "Addicted" - Lit 4. "War" - The Cult 5. "A Praise Chorus" - Jimmy Eat World
I guess you are talking about CDs that came out in 2001 instead of CDs that you bought in 2001. Going by the first criteria, there's not much to go on but I'll list these 3: Drukqs - Aphex Twin Two - Utah Saints Tweekend - The Crystal Method However, the second criteria...CDs bought in 2001, well then...I can't limit my list to 3, but here's a best of for now (will probably change in a week or two) in no particular order: Play - Moby Mezzanine - Massive Attack The Bends - Radiohead Karma - Delerium Heaven or Las Vegas - Cocteau Twins Hounds of Love - Kate Bush Passion - Peter Gabriel Within the Realm of a Dying Sun - Dead Can Dance Endtroducing - DJ Shadow Fumbling Towards Ectasy - Sarah McLachlan
Cake - Comfort Eagle What can I say, I don't buy CDs very often... She's changing her name from Kitty to Karen She's trading her MG for a white Chrysler LeBaron I want a girl with a short skirt and a looooooooooooooooooooooong jacket...
Five for Fighting - "America Town" Staind - "Break the Cycle" (surprise no mention of this) Blink 182 - "Take Off Your Pants and Jacket"
vengeance -- is it possible to get a copy of the DMB stuff that wasn't released?? i heard some if it at their concert and really liked it. not to say i don't like "everyday"...but i would agree that it doesn't have the depth of their other stuff. it lacks the experimental edge that makes DMB so good, in my opinion. jeff -- ben folds went solo, right??? i have never the ben folds five body of work other than "brick." is much of their music like that??? i really like that song!! which album is their best...or is this solo project along that same line and even better???
