Big qualifying game this Sunday in Mexico City @ noon on ESPN2.

Personally, I'm getting a little tired of the comments coming out of the Mexican camp. For example...

What is that supposed to mean? I hate to break it to you, Mexico, this is not your game or region any more. The US has surpassed you.

My prediction...2-0 US Wins. Eddie Johnson will score his 8th in 7 games and Landon will add one for good measure. The goaless streak will continue for this series.

According to FIFA mexico is still ranked much higher than US....however the US is getting better but i have a feeling that Mexico will win this one.

I just think US has a little ways to go before they get to the international level they need to be at...but of course i am also going to say i am pretty surprised on how quickly they are getting better.

OK, yeah... that's some BULL on the part of PARDO, I think. Don't bring that CRAP into the game... I myself, being MEXICAN, and always rooting for MEXICO, even think that's TOO much. I agree, LeRoy.

I root for the USA because now it's my country, too, but not against MEXICO. I don't agree, however, that your country has surpassed ours. Maybe it's close to us in skills, but not surpassed it. Check the stat count:

    (MEX) (USA)
    39 Played 39
    18 Won 11
    10 Drawn 10
    11 Lost 18
    76 Goals 45
Those stats go back to '34 in the Italy World Cup, when Mexico lost. WHATEVER, freaker.

OK, maybe our hearts were broken in 2002, but we will make sure that doesn't happen until maybe another eternity. Yes, I have seen this country grow in skills and popularity in FUTBOL since the '94 cup. Anyway, Mexico will beat EE.UU. at the Estadio Azteca. Anybody would like to do a friendly wager???

Where is this game being played? Estadio Azteca in Mexico City? That place is f'ing huge. Over 100,000 fans will be there vehemently cheering against the US if that's where the game will be played. Very tough place to win.

FIFA ratings are a joke, no soccer fan puts any belief into them.

Well since the US sucked at soccer until about 2000, I would think that the gap between the teams since 1934 should be bigger. When's the last time you beat us, or even scored against us?

With that said, this is still going to be a very tough match. We've never won in Mexico, and Azteca is a tough place to play due to elevation and smog. A draw would be a good result for America.

    What you got in mind?

By the way, when was the last time Mexico scored a goal against the US? I don't think it was in this century.

The last goal they scored against us was July of 2001. Since the year 2000 we've outscored them 12-1. Playing in Mexico will be tough but I think we'll be able to pull out the win. I hope Johnson will keep his scoring run going, he's been scoring at an amazing pace.

I'd be willing to make a small wager that the US gets the win, say $10 to the tip jar.

And Mexico is ranked 6th and the US 11th, that's not a huge gap between them.

i am mexican american born and raised in texas. still for some reason i find myself more attached to the mexican national team and the MFL. i can identify with the great players past and now like hugo sanchez, rafa marquez, cuah blanco, oswaldo sanchez. even lesser players like kikin, altamirano, morales, bravo i find i can root for.

american players i really can't identify with. they are great players like donavan, mcbride, beasley, johnson. but i don't know anything about them. the last american players i remember myself genuinly cheering for was alexi lalas and coby jones. maybe it was their hair :D

maybe some other mexican americans can expand on the subject.

as for this weekend i am rooting for mexico because my favorites Marquez and Blanco are playing. but ultimately i hope both qualify, which they should, and both advance atleast to the knockout stage of WC2006.

then we'll see what happens. :)

I'm not a huge Soccer fan, but my buddy Carlos is a soccer lifer, and he assures me that the US is going to have a helluva time winning in this stadium, i'd like to see em do it.

The teams seem close enough that we might win a neutral site game.

I'd settle for a draw in Mexico though.

Thanks for proving my point for me, you've beaten us once since August 1999, and we have outscored you 12-1 in that span. You haven't even scored on us since 2001. I could care less how could your team was from 1932-1999, we are the superior team now.

I know that, I said it in my first post.

That's what I'm referring to. The tide has turned. The US has always been overlooked by Mexico.

    SwoLy-D, I'm in.

This kind of crap really pisses me off.
They are really suffering here, being able to have jobs and financial opportunities that pay leaps and bounds more than they could get in Mexico, having all manner of government forms and services available to them in Spanish. What a ****ing joke. If they are suffering then may I be the first to say, they are welcome to get the **** out.

I love it when the U.S beats Mexico because it shuts up all the Mexican fans that go to the games and turn our home games into pretty much a road game with a hostile crowd.

Dude... :D did you see my link? I am beating the dead horse talking about what you say because I think you meant the United States of "America" when you said "America"... actually, CD America (Las águilas del America) are a team in Mexico, and Azteca Stadium is their home. This would fit well with your post. Why do you white peo... I mean, you people from the United States keep calling your country "America", when that's the name of the whole continent? What a joke. But there is also an "América de Cali" in Colombia... so... you couldn't be the only "America" when you're the United States... anyway... this could be in the D&D... :D

Dude, to enlighten your point about not winning in Mexico, I remember one time, U.S. played much better FUTBOL than my team México, AT Azteca Stadium. I believe it was a final score of 0-0, but our crowd (good point about the hostility, Aces) really took it to our own team chanting: "So-mos bien pen-de-JOS, So-mos bien pen-de-JOS, So-mos bien pen-de-JOS, " meaning "We Are Very DUMB ASSes" to the tune of Homer Simpson and Bart Simpson's "You-don't make friends with SA-LAD". It was hilarious and we will never forget it. Check this one out, too (see the top):
[IMG]Back in a friendly in April

YES, LeRoy, we're on... shake on it.

I cant say US is better than mexico, if u looked at their past schedules and records not only does mexico hvae a better winning record, but they are beating top class teams. On the other hand, US is beating some of the teams that will likely not even play in the WC. US matches up pretty well with mexico than most others do, but that doesnt make them a better team overall. Mexico should win this at home 2-0
