all season long, and even after the season is over (at least for the rockets), i have heard this excuse used. but has anyone ever done the average age of rotation players??? aren't the rotation players' ages much more important than the total roster's average age?
that excuse is almost as stupid as the "we only missed the playoffs by one game" rally cry imo. The only 2 rotation players on the team that I feel that is valid for is Griff and Ming. The rest have been in the league long enough where they *should* know how to play smart.
i am almost positive it is not 2nd youngest, but 2nd least experienced, right behind denver, and we had something like a 2.5 average. francis had 3 years, cat 4, ming 0, griff 1, and rice about a million, and when posey started starting i wanna say he had only been in for 3 or 4 before last season. so it's possible our starters for the last half of the season only had an average of 2.4 years experience before last year. and the two with the most, steve and cuttino, were our 2 best, or certainly most consistent, players so maybe those few extra years would help everyone else. now what helped us alot in the overall stat was people like collier, nachbar, hawkins, and maddox, people with a combined 2 years experience but who never played. i do wonder, of the other playoff teams, who had less than 2.4 years experience in the starting lineup. all years experience are for what they would've been last year, not what they are now.
Ya I did this calculation one time earlier during the year. I forget the exact number I came up with, but it was something like 27. That basically means that the team should be in its prime as that number equates to 4 yrs of college experience plus 5 yrs of NBA experience. Its pretty obvious that the word patience and Rockets should not be used in the same sentence.
The excuse runs out when a team like Phoe beats you out for the playoffs. Their 3 best players are 26,24,and 20 and our 3 best players are 26,28,and 22. Add to the fact that no one in our rotation misses any major time with injury and i'll say it is a excuse.
I think people are saying how long have their three best players been in the League Stephon is like 5~6 yrs Marion i guess the second . . this is his 2nd/3rd year? and Amare the rook I think it helps that their veterans are actually productive Rocket River
stephon been in the league 7 years. cuttino 5 years marion 4 years steve 4 years ming 0 years stoudamire 0 years
Oh you mean like Tom Guggliotta and Scott Williams? Also, their most productive veteran Penny Hardaway missed 24 games, and they depended a great deal on an extremely young Joe Johnson to fill in. Joe Johnson is only 21 yrs old and logged a significant chunk of mins (27 per game). The Suns core of Marbury, Marion and Stoudamire is extremely young plus Joe Johnson is also very young. Jake Tsak is only 23 yrs old as well. Please stop with the excuses.

or at least hold it to the playoffs teams since those are the ones who are successful and must be overcome for us to get to the playoffs.
Here's a simpler recap of age and experience of teams: http://bbs.clutchcity.net/php3/showthread.php?s=&threadid=49238 Myth #4
LOL! no. i was going to stop at the western conference teams. as a matter of fact, i'll just stop now, because i can already see that the rockets average age is not far from the ages of the western conference's playoff teams. i think this should crush all rumors about the rockets' age being the reason they aren't more successful.
