I think unless we land in the top 5- we basically should look more closely at the second round of this year's draft. There is some decent Shooting Talent available.

Assuming we will use the First round for a big man ( assuming Shelden Williams or Tiago Splitter), we should see if we can get someone to give up a second round pick this year.

The following are interesting candidates ( some obviously are better physically for the NBA)

    In no particular order

    Mike Gansey 6-4 205 Lbs
    Quincy Douby 6-3 175 lbs
    Taquan Dean 6-3 185 lbs
    James White 6-7 190 Lbs
    Denham Brown 6-5 220 Lbs

We pick the guy with the Highest Basketball IQ qho plays defense and is coachable!

I left out Diaz ( Hurricanes)- as he is Just 6-2 ( but I hear he has a 50 Inch veritcal! Might not matter much in a Van Gundy system!)

We have to fill DA, Barry and Wesley's spots. Wesley is welcoem to join- but at the vet's minimum. ( I would bring Sam Cassell just for the Testosterone factor!- Plus it is fitting for SAm to end his career in HOuston)

    Mike Gansey without doubt.

This guy really can shoot the ball.

Acturally I dont see JJ Redick is a much better player than Gansey.

Both are average athletes that are 6'4" and about 200 pounds. Both are excellent shooters. Both are excellent off the ball. Both are average defenders. Both are slightly undersized for the 2 guard position. Both average about 2 assists per game but Gansey does it with only 1 turnover per game.

DUDE can jump out of this world. We need some athleticism at the 2 gaurd position. He's shot is coming around too.

At 6-7 he needs to add at least 20 pounds to compete in the NBA.

And he will be 24 when next season starts.

i see our draft strategy much differently.

    we need:

    a. shooting
    b. perimeter defense
    c. 3rd scorer

we can't get C in a trade because we have no talent to give away. we can't get C with the MLE because it's probably not enough money for that kind of player.

we can allways sign or trade for good shooters or defenders. thier just role players. in the draft we have to find someone who can put up points and create his own shot.

if he adds either shooting or perimeter defense as well then that wouold be awesome.

if we can get in the mid lotto i would go for brandon roy or jj redick.

I think we own the Knicks second round pick which will be one of the top picks in the second round. If James White can shoot I would really like him on the rockets.

We basically have two first round picks this year - the top pick in the 2d round is vastly preferable to most NBA GM's than having a 1st round pick from 20-30 because the quality of players available is about the same plus you don't have to hand out a first-round $$$ contract. Interesting to see if they'll be packaged to move up, or if we use both.

I don't care who it is as long as CD doesn't screw this up. David Lee and Wayne Simien were better picks than Head IMO and they were picked later. We need a guy that can put the ball in the hole on day one, hopefully he can defend as well and Grumpy gives the kid a chance.

Is James White the guy did that between the legs from the free throw line? I want him! There haven't been a Rockets won a dunk contest yet!

I am really glad that some one here also noticed Douby.
This guy is TERRIFIC. A cold-blood shooter beyond the arc.
Although not strong enough to be an NBA starter, but should definitely contribute off the bench.

Why not Rashad Anderson in the second round? He's the top 3 point shooter all time at UConn and is known for clutch shooting. He's probably the surest bet as a shooter, though he doesn't give you much else.

So far my picks are Richard Roby of Colorado and Marcus Vinicius of Brazil. Roby is a shooting guard with size and Vinicius could spell McGrady at SF. The latter could learn defense from JVG and is used to tough love coaches.

    Richard Roby
    Birthdate: 9/28/85
    NBA Position: Shooting Guard
    College: Colorado
    Class: Sophomore
    Ht: 6-6
    Wt: 190
    Hometown: San Bernardino, CA
    High School: Lawrence Academy
    Team Site Profile
    2005 Stats

    NBA Comparison: Allan Houston

Strengths: One of the top shooters in the college game ... Prototypical 2-guard for the NBA ... Mechanics and release on his shot are tremendous ... Has shown the ability to take over and win games with his shooting and playmaking ability ... Clutch player who steps up and shows no conscience shooting the ball when the game is on the line ... Has great genes for the game as he is K-Mart's half brother and the athleticism did not miss him ... Extremely long and fluid athlete with a smooth offensive game ... Good leaping ability which will only get better as his body matures ... He is adept at creating shots for himself off the dribble ... His mid range game is very advanced ... Extremely long arms give him added length ... Picks up a lot of steals with great speed and anticipation ... Possesses an excellent feel for the game, especially offensively ... Has worked hard on cutting down turnovers as his improved A/TO ratio attests ... Has excellent upside ...

Weaknesses: Must show the passion and hunger to play up to his abilities every time out ... The game comes so easily to him that he can get by on natural ability so staying focused and working hard to improve is key for him ... Still needs to become stronger physically ... Added strength will give him more ability to take the ball inside and finish ... Developed a bit of a soft rap from scouts after starting his sophomore season slow, but has responded well ... Must show the ability to play well against top level teams and players ... Free throw shooting should be better for such a great shooter (roughly 70%), needs to put in work to improve upon it ...

Notes: Led Colorado in scoring as a freshman ... Half brother is Denver Nuggets star Kenyon Martin.

    Marcus Vinicius
    Birthdate: 1/4/84
    NBA Position: Small Forward
    Ht: 6-9
    Wt: 220
    Int Team: San Carlos
    Hometown: Sao Paulo, Brazil

Strengths: A natural born offensive player, Marcus can do anything with the ball. Has a perfect shot, shooting from the 3-pt line or the perimeter. With his size, can shoot over anyone and his long arms provide a high release point. Has all the fundaments of the game, can pass, dribble, play post-up, penetrate the boards and his ball-handling is very strong for a men of his size. Runs the floor like a 6-3 guy, with spectacular agility and he excels in the fast break situation. Already has a good leaping ability and his body hasn't fully developed so it can improve.

Weaknesses: Defense; he has a lot to learn defensively. Doesn't seem to enjoy playing defense and will have to improve his intensity and effort here. Also must gain some strength and bulk to contend with NBA players. Sometimes looks lost and has bouts of inconsistency, but his knowledge and feel for the game will improve as he gains experience. He's still learning the game but with international experience (Italian league), in three years Marcus could be a top 3 International prospect.

The stats dont tell the story. He's behind Shaq, Alonzo Mourning, Antoine Walker and Haslem.
