In the 2nd quarter tonight the Rockets basically played all rookies (Damon Jones is in his 3rd year and Langhi in his 2nd), and now I see the benefit of Francis playing so many minutes in the other games. Francis and Norris can really bring out the best in Torres, Morris and Griffin. Without any verterans in the second the Rockets struggled to find good shots, which should be expected. What I was impressed by was all the players on the court (Jones, Torres, Langhi, Morris, and Griffin) were a threat from anywhere on the floor shooting wise. Griffin nailed 2 threes and blocked 2 shots (goaltending was called both times, one was a REALLY bad call, and the other one may have been right). Griffin looked really good this quarter, and I think he was definately worth the three picks we traded (we'll find out for sure later this season). All in all the 2nd quarter gave everyone a good look at our rookies and Langhi didn't seem too horrible, but all the other rookies out played him. B
Good assessment, B. I think Williamson is eating Morris alive, but all in all, a nice comeback from being down by 11. Mobley, who I thought was not going to play, has clearly been the best player for either team that has played tonight. He made about 3 unbelievable moves to the basket. Walt looks leaner and he has played well, so has Cato. Kenny Thomas started off strong, but has struggled a little bit. Oscar's shot is not falling that good although he does have a 3. Damon Jones (who I think looks like Francis from a distance) has come on after starting poorly. Terrence shot an ugly airball 3, but had a nice block as the half was winding down. Langhi is struggling in my opinion, although he did hit a 3 as well. Griffin is a natural. The faster he can contribute on a 25 to 30 minute basis, the better we will be. Check that - it was a long 2 by Lanky as his foot was on the line. That is the worst shot to take in basketball.
Speaking of Griffin, did anyone see that one tip-in he did where has facing almost completely away from the basket and the ball just lightly floated over into the rim? He really seemed to have some amazing timing and instincts there. Plus it also seemed he was very active in moving over from the weakside to block shots. He looks a bit timid, but as long as he keeps developing he looks very promising. Tree
Yes, the last play of the quarter was just amazing - Moochie's shot was falling short and Griffin touched and placed it behind his head - what a play that was.
