Looks like overcompensating for the surgically repaired knee might have messed up his other knee. Amare was childish to try to make an early comeback from a microfracture surgery and Suns were stupid enough to listen to him. Stoudemire to have surgery today on right knee Arthroscopic procedure will address cyst; Suns forward probably done for season Paul Coro The Arizona Republic Apr. 5, 2006 12:00 AM Amaré Stoudemire will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his right knee this morning and likely will not attempt another comeback this season, the Suns star's manager said. Stoudemire decided to have an exploratory scope to address a Baker's cyst behind his right knee and determine what is causing the fluid to collect, said Stoudemire's manager, Rodney Rice. The right knee has troubled Stoudemire for five weeks, just as his surgically repaired left knee was improving for a three-game return. "As of right now, I'd say he's not going to play again this season," Rice said. "I feel that's the best thing for him." advertisement Suns team physician Thomas Carter, who will perform the surgery, has said there is no right knee defect like what was diagnosed before an October scope on Stoudemire's left knee. That lesion was larger than expected, prompting a microfracture procedure. Possible causes for a Baker's cyst include general wear, torn meniscus or ligament damage. Rice said the doctors believe Stoudemire has nothing more than "wear and tear" with some debris to remove in the joint. "Just to be sure and definite about that, Amaré wants to go in and make sure," Rice said. Draining the cyst was an option, but the fluid could return. He is facing four to six weeks of down time. Stoudemire could participate in USA Basketball's July 19-25 camp in Las Vegas. "Whether it happens a month or four months from now, nobody can say," Rice said of a possible return. "I'd like to think by the time USA Basketball goes to camp, Amaré will be 100 percent." http://www.azcentral.com/sports/sun...5amare0405.html
Atleast for the most part T-Mac knows when to call it quits before he does some thing stupid like Amare has..
What a nightmare the Suns are in! They just gave the guy the max and he might never again be the same player, and likely will be in and out of the lineup for the next few seasons like every player that's ever done that surgery. From what I have heard, to fully recover from the surgery he had, he needs about 18 months...I believe our own trainer Keith Jones has said something about this once before.
No doubt about it. They were playing well without him.. why on earth do you endanger your cornerstone for the future? Stupid and short-sighted.
This is exactly what I was thinking after Amare's debut game. The guy has his whole future ahead of him and they risk it for possible short term gain. I also felt he would blow up their chemistry and that's exactly what happened.
I don't know about that, t-mac had plenty opportunities to shut it down also. everyone talks like its a given that t-mac is coming back healthy but we as fans don't know that yet.
What's funny is all the whispering and yelling on this board about McGrady being a quitter (Rocket River & Friends, where are you?) for not coming back for our last few meaningless games. The alarming part about all of this is that the right knee is being cleaned out because of "wear and tear" (led to the cyst). Anytime a knee is cleaned out, you have that much less cartilage left. Considering he had microfracture surgery because there was a "bald spot" in his other knee, this is something to watch closely. You don't have a bare spot without there being a lot of loss in general. He could be riding on bald tires in no time.....(think Tim Hardaway, Houston, Mashburn...) Evan
Amare shouldn't even attempt to participate in USA Basketball's July 19-25 camp in Las Vegas. It's not worth the risk. -G'day-
just wondering, did he sign the extension? If he did he's lucky! cause his career looks to be over. too bad for for the Suns.
His career is not over. that really PRE-MATURE to observ. but, the Suns made a bonafide mistake by bringing him back so early.
wow that is a pretty crappy comment to make about amare being childish. he is 23 and he hasn't had a surgery like this before. how the hell is he supposed to know that he shouldn't be pushing his body? its the doctors/suns responsiblity to keep him on pace for his recovery and not rush him. i guess it pisses me off when you call him childish for trying to comeback when thats all you want to do after you have been on the shelf for so long with knee surgery. amare has no fault in trying to comeback. all the fault is on the suns organization for even letting him believe that he should be trying to comeback this season.
yes he wa stupid but i believe he thought he was doing it for good reasons, meaning he just wanted to help the team but what a dumb decision by the organization and amare i believe it was chris webber who gave hime a call and told him not to rush back, sucks when you dont listen
At least we don't have to hear how Houston made a mistake and chose Yao in the draft anymore from Yao haters
