My most anticipated game for the summer. Basketball games are the only ones I play throughout the year. Shaq is coverboy this year, and there's supposed to be a major upgrade in the post moves department:

I have been buyin the 2k series every year since it came out until last year....Live 2005 beat 2k series last year.

I hope the 2k series makes the better game this year although I am not as biased towards it as much as I was in the past.

Thanks for the update darkwarrior. I wasn't as interested in NBA games this year as I have in years past (due to next-gen goodness), but the media and impressions have sparked my interest. I couldn't watch some of the GS clips very well since I have a slow internet connection. I was forced to stream them since the downloadable clips are screwed up. From what I could tell, there are some tweaks that I like. Nothing seemed too unrealistic, although there may have been a little bit too many alley-oops for my taste. It sounds like you can change a bunch of that stuff though, even more so than in previous years.

The shot stick sounds nice in theory; hopefully, it controls nicely as well. I liked the post moves in 2K5, so if they can add some post defense and tweak some thing, I'll love the post game. I also love the ability to get computer controlled player to perform an action (set a pick, go out for a 3, post up). There were so many times that I wished I could control 2 players at once in previous games. It looks like they spent some time trying to improve the isomotion controls as well. The defensive moves sound nice as well. I'm looking forward to the franchise mode details, and hopefully the game plays as good as it sounds.

I am curious to see what the Xbox 360 version of the game is like. The clip they showed during the MTV showing was amazing, but the clip(s) since then look like a PC version of this game for the current-consoles. The thing that scares me even more is that some of 2K Sports other X360 games look the same way.

That's cause it's arcade based with no strategy or game play involved. All you do is run up court and dunk...of course it's more exciting but if i wanted that iw ould get NBA Street. With 2K series at least you got post moves. Different defenses that actually work, and is a lot more difficult to play which makes it more of a simulation and not just some NBA JAM clone.

    gameplay - live is inferior

    realism - live is inferior

    presentation/graphics/animations/sound - live is inferior

live was good... back in 1995 when there was no competition. 2k has owned live ever since NBA 2K

the only thing live has going for it is EA's gazillions of dollars in marketing/overhyping and a slam dunk contest...

    You kids...

Here's a little something to help you guys remember:

    Basketball:
    2K: More simulation/realism
Live: More arcade/fast paced - for people who don't want to bother with harder simulations

    Football:
    Madden: More simulation/realism
(RIP)2K: More arcade/fast paced - for people who don't want to bother with harder simulations

    You're all welcome.

NBA 2K6 is showing up in the EB games system as $39.99.

Don't know if this is a mistake, or a drop of the $20 price point, or what. Considering that NHL 2K6 is supposedly still 19.99.

Looks like the Isomotion is a lot better this time around. I'll have to wait and see how it controls, but the gameplay clips of all the moves looked pretty good, IMO. They didn't seem to have some of the issues that previous versions had, and they actually looked pretty realistic. The moves seemed to create just enough space for the superstars to get their shots, but not enough to get them open dunks or wide-open jumpers. Even if Shaq could do these moves (which I'm assuming he can't), he probably wouldn't be able to hit some of those shots like T-Mac, Carter, AI, Kobe, etc. could. And even then, the defenders were just a step or two behind, and there seemed to be some help defense ready. So in other words, it looks like Isomotion3 could be balanced, getting superstars their shots while making sure scrubs are still scrubs.

I missed the passing clips when you originally posted them. They look OK, although I didn't have too much of a problem with the passing controls. I don't quite like the one-handed cross court bounce passes, although maybe those are the flashy type passes for the Steve Nash type players. I think I like the Alley-oop controls better this time around. I was a little worried that they would be too easy to perform, but it sounds like they won't be. It sounds like you can try them anytime, but they'll only work if the situation calls for it. TO's, fouls, missed attempts, etc., look to be part of the process. If worse comes to worse, a few sliders could change that I imagine.

I'm downloading the 1up clip right now, but it will probably be a little while before it finishes downloading for me. A little OT, but I'm curious to see what VC has in store for the Xbox 360 version of the game. The MTV clip was prerendered, IIRC, and the E3 one didn't look right. NBA Live for the Xbox 360 looks pretty good, IMO, and VC are usually better at graphics than EA (as these clips show), so I'm just curious to see what they have in store for us. I imagine they won't show too much until after the current-gen versions ship though, kind of like EA is doing with Madden (still waiting for more Madden shots).

Thanks for all the updates darkwarrior. Keep up the good work.

Does anyone know the "Roster cut off date" for the game? It would be nice to know so I know the date to start keeping track of roster moves to make when I get the game.

Have anyone seen the NBA '06 by Sony? It's like NBA Live with a story line mode. It could give Live and 2k6 some real competition this year.

I dont' know about the console version of the game, but something cool about the PSP Live version is that you will be able to download up to date rosters from the web.
