A couple of years ago I had to book it to South Carolina from Utah. The plane tickets were $$$, so I grabbed a rental car. I left Utah at 8 p.m. and arrived in Greenville S.C., Tuesday morning just after 9 a.m. Oh yeah, my wife was with me, so in other words, I had a fun time driving the entire trip myself. Back on topic, I guess I put around 5K miles on the car in less than a week.
Not this year, but last year my wife, dog and I drove from Houston to Washington, DC and spent 5 days exploring the capital. Then we drove to Lexington, KY to visit some friends and then drove from Lexington home (in one 15-hour shot!). A couple of years ago, we (wife, dog and myself) drove from Houston to the Grand Canyon and back with stops in Carlesbad, NM, Roswell, NM, Santa Fe, NM, Flagstaff, AZ and Los Cruces, NM.
Back in the summer of '94 we racked up around 15,000 km (a bit less than 10,00 miles) between the 12th of June and first of week of July. In the midst of moving from Calgary to Toronto, we had to attend a wedding in Halifax, Nova Scotia -- normally a 5,000 km drive from Calgary. But we made detours and stops in Chicago, Louisville, Richmond, New York, Boston and Maine, among others, making that trip a lot longer, and in the process, more fun. I've made several other long trips since, but none that can match that. Funny thing is, that '92 Chevy Lumina mini-van we toured with that summer is still chugging along today at 500,000+ km (although its now used about as often as the Rocks use B. Nachbar) Azim da Dream
I got stuck in Sacramento, CA on 9/11/01. I was supposed to travel back to Dallas on 9/12 from a business trip. Ihad already driven from Sacramento to Fresno on 9/11, and back...and then Sacramento to Reno, NV and back. I then took my rental and drove it to Dallas, since all planes were grounded. That turns out to be about 2,341 mi. You still have me beat!
That's pretty good for a rental. I'm sure a lot of people have done more in their own car, but not bad Htownhero, not bad.
Damn impressive. I remember one time I bought this Dodge Pick-up and we had all of the financing taken care of so we left in the truck. About a month later I get a call from the dealership and the finance company that was financing me went under and with all of my college debt and crappy credit they couldn't find financing for the car. I bought it with no money down. Long story short I had to take it back to Greenspoint Dodge after 5 weeks. I got it with 10 or 15 miles and brought it back with over 10,000. They love me to this day.
