I think it was discussed already but interesting note. Now that Gilbert cracked the MLB top 100 list, if he wins (or does he just need to be top 3?) rookie of the year, Astros will get a draft pick. If Astros care about the potential pick, I saw they'll have to wait until September for him to be eligible for rookie status for next year. Would you say F the draft pick and call him up or try to make a trade for offensive help and save him until September or next year?

Astros have had a top 5 ROY finisher 8 of the last nine years. Could be 9 of 10 with Hunter Brown this year.

The rules are a little confusing, as they were originally created with the international draft plan that fell through. I think they have to win ROY or finish high in the MVP/CY voting (so if Brown doesn't win ROY, but takes home a CY next year, the Astros get a pick). The player has to start the season on the roster, so Gilbert wouldn't be eligible this year. If they think Gilbert can contribute, its probably worth burning his rookie eligibility rather than waiting til next year.

That is pretty crazy to think about and project it to continue. It also goes back even further:

2010: Castro (not ROY votes but future core pieces the system produced)
2011: Altuve, JD Martinez (not ROY votes but future core pieces the system produced)
2012: Keuchel, Marwin (not ROY votes but future core pieces the system produced)
2013: Stassi, Grossman (ok they can't all be great years)
2014: McHugh, Springer (Enrique Hernandez also debuted)
    2015: Correa (McCullers also debuted)
2016: Devenski (Bregman and Musgrove also debuted)
    2017: Gurriel
2018: (no Astro earned ROY votes, but Tucker, Straw, and Framber made their debuts)
2019: Yordan (Urquidy and Bryan Abreu also debuted)
    2020: Javier
2021: Garcia (Jake Meyers also debuted, as did Jose Siri and Chas McCormick)
    2022: Pena
    2023: (Brown)
    2024: (Gilbert)
    2025: (Barber)
    2026: (Clifford)

    I LOL'd at 2013.
I think you can write 2023 (Brown) in pen at this point.
Hopefully- years from now- 2024 will show Gilbert & Whitley and everyone will nod and say that was a good year like 2018 was.

Nice Try MLB taking away 2 1sts, 2 2nds Picks away.

Thievery at its best by Rob Manfred, by the way Judge open the Yankee letter. Did Rob Manfred pay you off.

Jackson Loftin has stolen an impressive number of bases for how little he gets on base.

That roster is really low on position player talent. Not sure what the deal is but Whitaker has not been playing much either.

Sounds like a pre draft single A roster to me.

Looks like Whitley’s velo was a couple ticks down last night. I think it’s safe to say that if he has suffered another significant arm injury then he’s toast and we can (finally) write him off forever. Hopefully that’s not the case.

If he's injured long enough, the Astros might be able to get another option year. Not sure how that process works.
