I'm not trying to be standoffish or anything but Beverley was always a very solid shooter.

In his 2 college seasons he averaged 2 made 3's on 38%

In his first 2 seasons as a Rocket he averaged 1.8 made 3's per 36 on an average of about 37%

Those are great shooting stats for a defensive first player. Comparing Melton's shooting to Smarts is MUCH more accurate, the problem is Smart has about 30 pounds on Melton, which is an absolute world apart on defense.

I think we indeed got a steal, what he did should translate well into NBA, overall a very smart player

He's more comparable to Avery bradleys defense as an on ball ball hawk rather than smart's physicality on defense

Sure, but the point is where would Bradley/Beverley be without their shot? Probably not in the NBA.

The reason Smart is in the NBA despite his poor shooting is that he's an absolute freak physically with a 230-pound frame on a 6'2 body, his quickness/strength combo is what makes up for it.

Oh sure but his shot is something he can work on and from recent vids that's what he is doing. Bradley wasn't a good shooter coming out of UT either

Hopefully, I'm rooting for him to pan out as much as any other fan, just saying I'm not that optimistic.

awesome match, no conflict, plus he likes to play defense, and harden like to play offense, if he learn to shoot decently, perfect combo for paul or harden

Not expecting him to be Marcus smart either. He was a top 10 lottery pick. Big disparity there comparing to a late 2nd rounder. But going with the defensive theme the rockets have in place now, this has some potential to be a fit

Kawhi Leonard shot 20% from three his freshman season. Was touted out of college as great defender with really long arms.

    Maybe we just got Kawhi!

Looks like his shot is improving in the video. Hit 10/12 threes and form looks solid.

His release and form look good. He's supposedly been working on his shot also during his time off. I wouldn't worry about his frosh stats so much, he's young and I don't see anything too alarming. Hell, a lot of the players taken before him had some really funky forms on their shots.

So we may end up with our own Melo. I like what I've read about him, but we'll have to see if he can develop a decent jumper and/or learn to hit the corner 3. Looks to be an excellent defender. Some of the talking heads say he might have gone in the 20's, except for getting caught up in the scandal.
