Take a QB in the 2nd round, best available regardless of position in the 1st assuming we have a top 10 pick. The only position that we can rule out in the first round is probably WR.
BPA. It's been proven that if you do your homework, the right QB can be had in the 3rd round. And there's no way Watkins falls past top 10.
I've watched a bunch of film on Barr. The same breed as Mercy/Brooks... No pass rush moves.... This draft is terribly overrated by the way. Too add on this, great value by getting a Mathews/Mosely
Louis Nix would almost completely eliminate the triple teaming of Watt. A CB would be nice as well. McCain is a serious liability. Keenum will buy our QB position some time. He might be the guy...but right now too early to tell. Still misses some reads. In order of need... ILB; Cushing getting injured was a worst case scenario. RB; Tate is gone after this season. I like DJ. OLB; Reed isn't nearly fast enough DB; McCain is getting bullied by opposing QB. NT; Would be a luxury to find a complimentary piece to Watt. OL; Would like to see what Quessenberry can do. QB; Keenum is okay for now. WR; Potential for Andre Johnson to ask for a trade.
Isn't Greg Schiano a no nonsense type of coach? We don't need a Marine Drill Sergeant, we need a coach who is smart and bold and willing to make tough decisions like getting rid of guys who aren't getting the job done.
I know people remember Smith because it was a big story who the Browns were going to draft with their first pick, Smith or Tim Couch, but people forget that Oregon produced Joey Harrington who was also the #3 pick in 2002. But interesting that Smith was #3 when Couch was taken #1. Harrington was #3 when David Carr was taken #1. And none of those players panned out.
Interesting. I doubt the Texans lose to the Jags, so I don't see any possible way they get the #3 pick. http://espn.go.com/nfl/standings/_/group/1 Tampa, Jacksonville, Minny, you wonder if they might bite on Manziel? Just the possibility of the first three players taken being QBs is unprecedented.
Which is why I'm against the thought of HAVING to take a QB in Round 1. If you're confident that a guy can be a franchise QB, great. But don't simply take the next best QB available because you need one.
Just another worthless mock draft, but what the hell. http://www.drafttek.com/2014-NFL-Mock-Draft-Round1.asp
Mariota will be a better version of Cam Newton. Still don't think QB is as big a problem as a defensive star(Barr,Mosely,Nix,Clowney,Mack).
Not sure about Mariota. Does anyone remember the last Oregon QB to be selected within the top 5 picks of the draft? He's actually part of this draft class:
trade the first for an extra second, switch back to the 4-3 and move watt to DT, he could probably get more swatt downs and the same number of sacks anyways. Draft best available LB with the first, RT with the second, Cb with the other second and Johnny football with the third. Fill the rest with TEs to taste. Wished it didn't have to be this way, but it's sort of fun speculating the draft.
we need to quit screwing around and draft Jake Matthews. A right tackle I feel would have possibly been the difference in this past weeks game. If they hold off those edge rushers for a little while longer case would have had time to set his feet and throw.
I dont think this team is a 2-13 team... but for anyone that thinks this team may run the table....to get to 9-7 lolllllll This team is shaping up to becoming a 5-11 team. I think the team is able to scrap together a win next weekend vs Oakland, and 2 win vs the Jags, with all the other games being losses... The Texans draft order hopefully is within the 5-8 range. This would set our team with a chance to replenish our stocks after really a terrible year of drafting. And as others have mentioned...there is a lot of hype for this draft class...but imo isnt justified. Time will tell, but this team really needs to find a way to continue to be really bad if there is gonna be any hope for our future. The 2013 Texans i think took for granted and failed to recognize how hard it is to win in this league. They mightve been over confident and must have really believed the hype set up by the national media. Nothing is given, but everything is earned. So far, the Texans have been massive disappointments...overrated. Sure the pipe dreams to getting to the playoffs are always nice, but bad losses since the start of the season cant be easily forgotten. The Texans must look at this as a bad season and move on. Focus on drafting well and decide what course of action we must take: Ride with Case and build around him, or draft a QB in the first round. Either way, the Texans have so many problems to address. If the Texans continue to employ this zone blocking scheme, we have to reevaluate our talent at the OLine. Our team should strictly focus on being the best at something. If the Texans trademark is running the football, the Texans should make moves via the draft that address those needs. Lets build the best OLine in the game.
