Who do you want to see?

Who do you expect to see?

Who do you definitely NOT want to see?

Will the fact that nearly all our minor league affiliates are in the playoffs affect things?

I think we won't see many callups initially due to the playoffs. Afterwards a lot of pitchers will probably be at their innings limits.

If I don't have to see Ambriz again this year, that will be a good thing

Unfortunately, he'll probably be back. I figure the guys currently on the 40-man will appear after the playoffs.

Hopefully Springer, but Luhnow will be a p***y and continue to let him rot away for now.

If not playing Springer means that we can keep him off of the 40 man roster and protect someone else from the Rule 5... then I am ok with it. It's not the best logic, but it is at least something.

That's actually pretty good logic. So much of MLB rules these days is a chess match.

How is that not the best logic? Are a couple weeks of Springer really worth potentially losing a prospect?

honest question because I don't know...who would we be at risk of losing in the Rule 5 draft if we didn't protect them?

I dunno. Guys like Ambriz, Rhiner Cruz, and Trevor Crowe are currently taking up spots as well.

If I remember correctly, we have a good 5-6 guys that likely need to be protected. Ambriz, Cruz, and Crowe are just momentary filler.

Uh yeah, I'd imagine they'll wait until after the season to do the roster shuffling.

No major prospects, basically all of our top 30 will be ineligible or protected.

Maybe we risk not protecting one of our injured trio (John Ely,Rudy Owens, Alex White). Telvin Nash is a potentially high upside guy, but he has struggled so mightily making contact at A ball, it's unlikely anybody is willing to waste an MLB roster spot on him for a whole year. The biggest danger in the rule V is losing a great young arm who hasn't "figured it out", Luis Cruz is a name I've heard a few mention. That's how we ended up losing Johan Santana, but there were different rules back then. In reality, Rule V picks very rarely end up being major losses.

So then tell me again...what's the risk in putting Springer on the 40-man? I don't see it. We might lose Telvin Nash...a player that makes Chris Carter look like Joe DiMaggio...or a pitcher that's in low A with a 5 era? No one could've predicted Santana. It's a guess while we have a player that should've been up months ago.

    September Call-Ups starting

Outfielder Trevor Crowe and reliever Jorge De Leon have been called up from Oklahoma City and will be in uniform for Houston today against Seattle.

Crowe hit .200/.282/.286 for the Astros in a 34-game stint in May/June that ended with him crashing into the wall and injuring his shoulder. In 30 games for OKC since coming off the DL and a couple of rehab games in the GCL, he's hitting .301/.326/.358 with 17K:5BB in 131 PAs.

In 12 games for OKC (15IP), De Leon has allowed 8H/1ER, 12K:2BB for an 0.60 ERA/0.67 WHIP. He made two relief appearances for the Astros against the Rangers on August 9 and 11 (both losses), allowing 3H/2ER, 1K:1BB in 1.2IP.

    OKC's playoffs begin on Wednesday.

I suppose this is the kind of thing to expect, at least until the minor league playoffs are done with.

Seems like this move will hurt OKC more than it will help the Astros though.
