I guess they're going to be desperate for ballers if they have an automatic bid to the 2012 games.

Sounds like England has an automatic bid right now, but they're trying to get FIBA to allow a unified Great Britain team instead.

They have traditionally fielded a Great Britain team at teh Olympics, not an England team, at least since I remember.

they're just trying to scrape up enough players to be competitive. John Amaechi and Spencer Dunkley are their two greatest players at this point....

they could have a pretty good team:

pg: ben gordon (born in london)
sg: kelenna azubuike (born in london)
sf: luol deng (already plays for england)
pf: pops mensah-bonsu (born in london) / ndudi ebi (born in london)
c: michael olowokandi (has a british passport)

There was something similar in Barbados soccer recently. They were playing the US in World Cup qualifying and were struggling to field a team. The ad basically said they will find a way to get you a Barbados passport if you've played professional ball at anytime.

Not just basketball, the question is are Brits good at anything, other than producing junk tabloid journalism?

We know that year after year, they can't find a player, male or female, to win a Wimbledon title in London. Heck, England isn't even qualified to play in Euro 2008 soccer tourney.

    What an embarrassment

Deng may not even get to play for them since he can't get insured.

Yeah they sucked when they won the WC in 1966. They suck now especially in Formula one racing. The professional soccer league sucks especially when it comes to the Champions league. They also suck at sailing and rowing and just about every other sport.

One thing England definitely doesn't suck at, is producing beautiful, naturally big breasted magazine cover girls. All though Poland and the Czech Republic are catching up.

Let's see, we want some silver-mining guys from the Yukon, a red arrow of ballers from Peru, and then a fat red arrow of those hoosiers from Wallaroo, Australia. Yes!
