Didn't they just have one about 5 years ago? --- I guess since it is Hollywood.... To read more.... http://www.nba.com/2009/news/06/07/2011.allstar/index.html
I think our days of hosting any non-playoff type game are over. The NFL has been snubbing us for Super Bowls and we already got our obligatory All-Star games. The country just doesn't see us a "destination" city like LA, New Orleans, Miami, etc.
I went to the 1st day of the NBA Jam Session thing years ago at LA, the C-list celeb day. Was surprised to see another All Star game's gonna be at LA again so soon
obvi there isnt much to do in Houston as there is in those cities. plus it's humid in houston almost all the time. houston is very dull compared to the glamor cities of the US, then again every city is dull compared to them.
Didn't we just have the superbowl 5 years ago? NBA All-star game 2-3 years ago MLB all-star game the year after that Just covered all the major sports in Houston in about 5 years. I do not think we are being snubbed at all as far as those sports are concerned. Can't expect to be picked every year. The only thing we have been snubbed from is the Olympics.
The gist of my post was that we are not likely to host any "awarded" events beyond those (save the Final Four, which I forgot about). Houston has been a finalist in the past few Super Bowl decisions, but other cities have been favored. We seem to host one showcase event per new stadium and we've done that for each of our new venues. I will be genuinely surprised if the Super Bowl, MLB All-Star Game, or NBA All-Star Game come back to Houston within the next decade.
This is true, Houston really does not offer the same attractions as many other cities, which is a shame because we are the 4th largest city in the U.S. yet we still have nothing to offer really..Nasa? Moody Gardens? Seriously i wish Houston could gain the respect like the other cities, but hopefully we can become a destination spot soon! Chilcutt
I think yall are being unduly pessimistic. Every event we've hosted, the organizers said Houston did a great job and they want to come back. They have to spread the wealth a bit, but they'll come back. Just because it went back to LA before it came back to us doesn't mean we're getting snubbed. I will say our lack of rep as a world-class city probably did affect our bid for the Olympics. But, I don't think it's a major factor for All-Star Games and Superbowls. They can't bounce between New York, Chicago and LA all the time.
An Eastern Conference team and or city, has not hosted the NBA All Star Game since 2003-Atlanta. 2004-L.A. 2005-Denver 2006-Houston 2007-Las Vegas 2008-New Orleans 2009-Phoenix 2010-Dallas 2011-L.A. The NBA says they want warm weather cities but I'm surprised they haven't gone back East to Miami or Orlando for example
Houston will NEVER host another Super Bowl again now that Dallas has a 100,000 seat capacity stadium.
We may be fourth largest city but not the largest metro area. In that sense we are 6th. 1.New York-Northern New Jersey-Long Island 2.Los Angeles-Long Beach-Santa Ana 3.Chicago-Naperville-Joliet 4.Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington 5.Philadelphia-Camden-Wilmington 6.Houston-Sugar Land-Baytown 7.Miami-Fort Lauderdale-Miami Beach It would be so awesome to have the olympics here, but were never considered. Weve been making bids but the OC (don't call it that) has routinely dropped Houston in the early stages of selection. I think winning another major (not MLS or WNBA sadly) title would be the best thing to reach that next level as a sports city.
