http://sports.sina.com.cn/cba/2009-06-10/14054425726.shtml From Jun 8 to Jun 12, Nike All-Asia Basketball Camp is hosted in BeiJing. 60 kids from countries of Asia Pacific are joining the camp. Our Aaron Brooks and Rajon Rondo from Boston Celtics are invited to coach and demonstrate their skills in the camp. Here are the photos extracted from sohu.com. More can be found here.
Brooks and Rondo both found the "vertical reach" ruler interesting as it will have a sound bite (in Mandarin) telling the actual height when the player touches it.
I wanna see an Aaron Brooks nike commercial maybe some day rather than those stupid Kobe and Lebron puppet ones.
Zhang Yi of sohu.com interviewed Aaron Brooks in this article: http://sports.sohu.com/20090610/n264451574.shtml Brooks said he might have dinner with Yao tomorrow night (Jun 11 BeiJing time). Nothing related to Rockets, just let me know if you still want a translation.
Brooks is almost right there with Rondo whom is listed as 6'1. There is no way in hell Brooks is 6' ft even is Rondo is 6'1 but who cares when James White can touch the top of the backboard.
Rondo touched the upper end of the top border of the square above the rim while Brook barely touch the lower end of the border (provided that he stretched his fingers). I think there are 2-3 inches differential already.
They must have wanted both a SG and a PG at the camp. Brooks and Rondo must be the only decent NBA starters willing to go.
^ Both of them are more than decent NBA players in my book. A bit off topic here, a number of NBA players, including Rockets players, will go to different cities in China this summer. Richard Hamilton was in Ji Nan a couple days ago.
^well, none of the CNT gurads can dribble pass the half court line without having the ball stolen, so any NBA guard will do i reckon
Also don't forget to take reach into account. Rondo seems to have a much longer reach than Brooks. And who knows the pic could have been taking on the way down, not at the peak.
Brooks' pre-draft measurement w/o shoes was 5'10.5". With shoes, he's 5'11.75". NBA height is typically based on a player's height with shoes and rounded up to the nearest inch. That's why you see Brooks listed at 6'0" on NBA.com and other sites. Almost every player in the league is listed as an inch-plus taller than their actual height (w/o shoes). Below are a few mini guards for comparison as well as average heights and measurements by position. I couldn't find Rondo's measurements on DraftExpress. The first two columns in the pics below are height without and with shoes. The last two columns are wingspan and standing reach. Brooks actually has long arms and big hands for his height. http://www.draftexpress.com/nba-pre-draft-measurements/
Brooks' fingers aren't even extended like Rondo's, they're bent a little so he actually can get up very close to where Rondo is touching.
Brooks is 6' ft. That one day they were giving out free tickets at capitol one, I stood next to him to take pictures he was taller than me (barely) and I'm 5'11. I know pretty tall for a girl but everyone in my family is tall.
There are several variables when doing visual-based measurements, starting with shoe differences. See post #13 for his actual pre-draft measurements. He is a 6-footer by NBA standards but not actually 6' tall. NBA standards are with shoes and rounded up to the nearest inch. Most players are listed to be at least an inch taller than their actual height. It's possible that he grew since the draft but unlikely given his age at the time.
