Tomorrow is the first big fire weather day of the year in the SW, with dry lightning and high winds forecasted for West Texas and New Mexico...

Rim's boss just walked by...so he had to quickly pretend his 10,000 posts were work related.

Northern Cal -- and Oregon no doubt look pretty tame. I guess your posting rate is secure for a bit ;).

    I have 10,000 posts?

The SW will kick into gear between now and July 4 with the last week of June being the time we traditionally get the largest number of large fires in NM and AZ. June is also critical because the severity of the fire season in ID, MT, OR, and NorCal is dependent on the how much rain we get through the first week or so fo July. Conditions will worsen in SoCal throughout the late Summer and that area will go off between Labor Day and Vets Day. So, I'm probably safe for another month, but could find myself anywhere between Mid-May and November.
There are way too many for that and way too many start at the same time for that naming convention to work. We usually name them after a geographic marker close to the point of origin. For instance, if a bunch of fires started in Houston, we might have the Westheimer, Loop, Channel, and Airport fires.
