...JR Giddens "JR is a freakish athlete that shoots the 3 well. He plays with a lot of heart and enthusiasm. He is a good rebounder and has shown a propensity for getting offensive rebounds and quick putbacks under the basket. Is listed at 6'5 but plays bigger because of his long arms and excellent jumping ability. He's a pretty good defender. JR gets excellent lift on his jump shot making it very difficult to block." I've been following this kid since he as at Kansas. He has been through a real learning period in his life and has turned it around, like a Caron Butler. I'm telling you, with the experience and ability, plus this guy was a stat filler last year. If Morey can buy another late first round or early second round pick this guy will be another Landry!!
I agree. He's got the talent and skillset. He's gotta keep his maturity about him. The questionmark is his maturity and drive. I saw him as a freshman at KU also. Phenomenal scorer back then, jumping over people from 20 feet out and launching the splashdown, not to mention the finishes at the rim. I have always like him. Was disappointed he left KU. My other sleepers are the Lester Hudson kid in the 2nd round and Brandon Rush in the late first round. Although it looks like Phoenix is wanting Rush at #15 now. If Rush is not there at 25 and we can't get a decent deal to move up for either Westbrook, CDR, or Alexander, then I'd like to trade out of the first round and get both Hudson and J.R. in the 2nd round.
MVN.com says that Lester Hudson is the perfect sleeper. http://mvn.com/nba-lakers/2008/05/22/draft-profile-lester-hudson-as-the-perfect-sleeper/
if we could pick up Rush in the 1st and Roby in the 2nd (like nbadraft.net predicts), this could be the best draft ever! That gives us a back up 2/3 in Rush for T-Mac and Shane, then also Roby can play backup 2 and learn the game a little better. That's if they're available for our picks. If Morey is going to buy someone, then I think it's possible to pull off both because the would trip me out if Roby drafts low enough for us in the 2nd.
I don't believe Roby will make it. He'll wind up in Europe. I think Walker will wind up being somebody's 12th man, maybe, and he'll have weight issues. I think he has a marginal NBA career.
After reading the review of Roby on draftexpress, I'm convinced, also encouraged, that we could swing getting Roby in the 2nd round (he's projected as a late 2nd rounder there).
I just found another player I really like. MALIK HAIRSTON I think this dude is a baller. He's got game and attitude on top of bball iq, and good shooting skills. My list: Brandon Rush (1st) Lester Hudson (2nd) J.R. Giddens (2nd) Malik Hairston (2nd)
Possible 2nd round pick for the Rockets? http://auburnbeat.blogspot.com/2008/01/scout-troop.html http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Sonny-Weems-330/ Reports from the Orlando pre-draft camp: http://www.nbadraft.net/2008nbapredraftcamp002.asp http://www.nbadraft.net/2008nbapredraftcamp003.asp
I like George Hill IF he can play PG. He's listed as 6'2" but could be shorter of course. His big warning sign is that he played for a crappy conference, his team was IUPUI. If it can be reasonably determined that this doesn't matter (like his predraft camp performances or something) then he could be considered for a late second rounder. 54.5% FG, 81.2% FTs (7.7FTA/game), 45% 3pt%, 6.8 Reb, 4.3 Ass, 1.8 Stl Of course I've never seen him play so this is just conjecture...
