Still early...but every dem is winning in early voting...potentially an entirely different courthouse.
Thread derail but goddamit Missin' in Action Jackson appears to be the winner over Jaworski for TX senate. Dammit.
Just saw on KPRC something like 259k dems did straight ticket while 209k GOP did. Do research next time people! Straight ticket is for the lazy!
Yeah. I'm a Democrat but I didn't vote straight ticket. My mother is a Republican and she didn't vote straight ticket either.
that won't be balance...it will be a courthouse with nothing but dems. and we'll lose a lot of good judges who have R's by their name.
We need a mix. True balance. We're just exchanging one monopoly for another. I'd like to see some Dems get on the state Supreme Court.
Sorry but I like the Democratic position on TRCP 43 governing Interpleader actions better - it was time for change I could believe in. Seriously I can't believe all judges in TX are elected - I like the NY system better (mix of appointed/elected). That's why Law & order is such a good show.
I hate to digress but elections of judges might be some of the stupidest things we have. Having people run partisan campaigns about decisions they are supposed to be impartial about is absolutely absurd. And the fact that people might cheer for dems or republicans for judge seats just sucks. Texas needs to fix this now.
When I moved to Texas 22 years ago, I couldn't believe they actually elected judges here. Totally stupid IMO. The GOP pushed and pushed to have judges appointed because they were the minority in a one-party state. Then the worm turned and the Dems wanted judges appointed. No principle on the issue from either side.
We unfortunately lost some good judges today. My favorite among the group that lost is Levi Benton, but there were some other good judges who lost like Mark Davidson, who has been on the bench forever. Hopefully, some of these new judges will prove to be just as good, but it will take time for them to get up to speed. I dislike the idea of elected judges, but it is even worse that judicial elections are partisan.
When are they sworn in and take office?? I have a trial on Jan. 5th....but new judge....so I'm wondering how that will go down.
As I recall from prior election years, they are sworn in at the very beginning of the year. A new judge will probably not be available on January 5 as I think there is a new Judge's school at the beginning of the year. You may get a visiting judge or a continuance.
I agree about Benton. He was an outstanding judge in my opinion. I'm sorry to see him go. Davidson I'm not as high on.
