2008 Draft Redux si's don banks does this every year. no science to it, of course - but it is interesting (not to mention impressive and quite gratifying) to see him put two texans in the redux top 12. man, this group drafts well. banks' '07 redux had okoye going 4th and his '06 redux had mario 6th (he'd probably like to redux his redux on that one) and ryans 8th. doubt okoye would still go 4th in another redux; but whether its 4 or 5 top 12 talents in 3 years, it's still pretty incredible. and if he did redo the '06 draft, daniels and winston might find their way into his first round, i'd wager...
Good to see the Texan's had some great rookies...when can we see Mouldin? He thinks pretty highly of Duane Brown too probably more than some on this board.
outside of QB, i'd rate LT as probably the toughest position to master in the NFL. that, to me, was the tip-off that kubiak, et al, thought this team was still a year away. you don't name your rookie LT starter in spring drills when you have a perfectly competent LT already on your roster unless the plan is to make sure he's ready for when games really count. and you ESPECIALLY don't do it when your first five (scheduled) opponents are PIT, BAL, TEN, JAX, IND.
Kind of jumping the gun a little bit with some of these. I think McFadden and Mendenhall are going to be every bit as good as Johnson, Forte, and Slaton... they were just hampered by injuries and depth issues.
you know - i think that's the part of this rebuild people really don't get: not only did this roster not have frontline guys like mario and demeco, it didn't have second- and third-tier guys, either. adibi, diles, probably okoye, brisel, walter - those guys are important, too.
Duane Brown seems to be getting better every game. How do we know this? Because no one has mentioned his name in about a month. That's always the sign of a good O lineman. If they start mentioning your name, it's usually because you screwed up. I think starting him this year will really pay off 3 or 4 years down the line. Let him make his rookie mistakes now instead of in a year or 2. Isn't that what the Oilers did with Brad Hopkins? There's no substitute for on the job training.
He has more then held his own the last couple weeks. We might have our book ends on the O line now.... *knocks on wood
This week will be another huge test for him, especially since he can compare the last game with the Titans to this one. Our drafts under this regime really have been amazing. Two legit starters in 2008 already, including one rising star ... and Adibi might supplant Greenwood to make it three starters from the class. Imagine if we'd had our 2nd round picks the last two years how much better we would be! If nothing else, we're going to end up with a ton of talent. Just gotta continue to learn how to win, and then learn how to win in the playoffs.
I agree, the front office sure can pick them in the draft it seems. Gets me excited about the future. I really feel like this was a lost season and next year could be huge. I think a big piece would be to get a new D coordinator. I just hope that Schaub will stay healthy.
We're so close to being 8-5 right now it's not funny (the Indy and Jax games earlier this season). I'm not saying we should be, but we're capable of it certainly. Now just imagine another year for our current picks and adding another draft class to it. Of course they could finish the season losing these last three and everything will be questioned again. This team is close though, as long as they don't spin out of control. They've done a nice job of disaster control the second half of this season.
Agreed, the strength of the OL can be determinative of RB success. Put any of the First tround RB's in for Derek Ward on teh Giants and they'd be runaway rookie of the year winners.
