Knowing what you know now... The only one who stands out on that list is Marc Gasol. But I had no clue he even existed at the time, let alone how good he is. So I guess yes. Brooks was a good choice that late in the first round. This type of poll is only useful when you have a higher draft pick...say lottery level. If in the future, Patterson has performance issues (twss & god i hope not) then this question could be asked.
That's acutally a good post. I'm surprised there were that many NBA players left. I'd like tohave gotten that Carl landry guy, but overall AB is right in that mix. At this point I'd prefer one of the big men, but I don't think his overall talent level is far off from any of them. I guess with hind-sight we sould have taken Splitter - but thta would be just to watch the veins on Pop's forehead when we play Splitter and Scola together!
thats dumb, because we ended up with both. and if we had drafted landry the first round curse would still be going because we wouldnt have had brooks.
Arron Afflalo. He's a rich man's Shane Battier. Top-5 perimeter defender in the league, very athletic, can create off the bounce/knock down the 3-ball. He's one of the most underrated players in the league, IMO.
I guess talk is cheap, but I'm OK with Hakeem over Jordan - even knowing that Jordan is the all time great. Hakeem is just such a classy guy and he always represents Houston well. Plus we had that whole thing of seeing him so raw at UH and growing into something so special. There was a real alpha omega experience and I'm not sure a couple more championships replaces that. Hakeem has brought me a lot of pleasure and some of the things he has said and done (off the court) have shaped me and made me into a better person. Basketball aside, he has improved my quality of life. I don't know because I never saw the other side, but I don't think I would be saying the same for MJ. Besides, what if some loyalty thing caused MJ to be our GM!
Forget about any of those other players, without Brooks we don't go to 7 games against the Lakers, only with Brooks we could have gotten there, that has something to say about how he can impact a game, let alone a playoff series. I'm all up for trading him but I haven't forgotten what he is able to do, AB please get your modjo back!
The list speaks for it's self, AB was a good choice and still has a chance to be an impact PGuard in the league. On Dream over Jordan, you're talking about a top #10 GOAT over a top #3 GOAT...I'll live with the choice.
Hell no, there's no one else in there even worthy Actually we should've drafted Sun Yue, you know Chinese money and all
Well said. But if we drafted Jordan instead, he could have reshaped the whole city of Houston into THE basketball city. I think from what we've seen in this free agency, the location of your city matters A LOT. Having Jordan might make the city of Houston a more favorable FA destination in the future. That being said, Jordan or Hakeem, can't go wrong with either. Both became the best players of their positions, and I'm sure had Hakeem received adequate help earlier on in his career we would've had at least a couple more rings. Unless of course you're the Blazers and you draft Sam Bowie.
