    Forward Dirk Nowitzki, Dallas (125)
Forward Tim Duncan, San Antonio (94)
    Center Amaré Stoudemire, Phoenix (36)
    Guard Steve Nash, Phoenix (129)
Guard Kobe Bryant, L.A. Lakers (128)

Yao had better stats than Amare but his missed games obviously hurt him. I think Boozer should be first team Center since he plays a lot of minutes there and definetely spends more time in the paint than Okur. Amare had a great year when you consider his horrendous start.

Has an MVP winner ever been left off of the all nba first team?

Switch Amare and Duncan, and that team actually ends up making a little bit of sense. Do the voters only look at the "positions" the players play? I swear these people must not know the difference between a power forward and a center.

I'm pretty sure they have to vote on them based on specific positions that they are "filed" under, similar to the all-star voting system.

Example, I don't think you could vote for Kobe as 1st team center.

NBA writers are pathetic....i stop carrying after Raja Bell managed to get on 1st all-defense, Dirk is going to end up with MVP after choke job, Amare > Yao after Shaq got first team last year he played less than 60 games, and they always complain about fans voting for the wrong people in All-Star game.....they give it break.

I never imagined the day Lebron James is underrated, but it has come.

Duncan should have been left off because he didn't indicate his proper position, center. He has played more of his minutes at center than PF for YEARS. If he kepts hiding under his "I am not a center" mantra his butt should be left out of the 1st team.

The real team should have been:
    C: Duncan
    F: Dirk
    F: James
    G: Kobe
    G: Nash

If TD insists he isn't a center replace him with Amare this year (only because Yao played barely over half).

If Wade stays healthy next year Nash or Kobe will go. Missed games really took out Yao and Wade--I look for both next year.

The real joke of the 1st team defense was Kobe. Bell had an excellent case because the guards are generally weak.
