Black Sabbath Miles Davis Sex Pistols Blondie Lynyrd Skynyrd http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20051128...btIWBOYExkF;_ylu=X3oDMTA3YXYwNDRrBHNlYwM3NjI- Miles seems a little out of place, but what the hell.......
I wish there was a way to watch the whole thing unedited. Last year I was so pissed when they would only show snippets of the speeches and their performances and would edit them into little montages. They should put out a DVD, I'd Netflix it.
On an unrelated note, calling Miles Davis Rock and Roll is worse than calling Jethro Tull heavy metal, but he is certainly deserving of some kind of HOF bid.
When it first started, VH1 or MTV showed the whole thing unedited, but they haven't done it for years now.
All deserving. I've always thought Blondie was a very underrated band. Everyone assumed she was a solo act, but that wasn't the case at all. Listen to some of their music, those guys can really play.
Frank Infante was a buddy of mine my first few years living in Los Angeles. We had him out to sit in with us a couple of times. A nice guy and a very underrated guitar player. Clem Burke is also a very underrated drummer, IMHO.
RMTex, always dropping names... Seriously, that's great. Some of the stuff he plays, like on Rapture and Heart of Glass, is straight up funk. Same with Burke. I hope they show the reunion part of the awards and I hope they have all original members instead of Debra Harry and a bunch of studio guys.
Yep, totally. They had a little of the 10,000 Maniacs disease, which is everyone thinks the female singer is amazing and the band is just a bunch of randoms. Not at all - that band was really good. Not to imply that Deborah Harry sucks nearly as badly as Natalie Merchant however. Deborah Harry is cool.
I only drop a name when there is a name to drop.... Yes that would be sweet if all of the members of Blondie would get together for their after-induction jam, but if I remember correctly, the Blondie "reunion" tour of a couple of years ago pretty much polarized the former band members who were left out of the tour. The only original ones that went were Debbie Harry (vocals), Clem Burke(drums), Chris Stein (guitar) and Jimmy Destri (keyboards).
It has to be at least 25 years after the release of your first album. In the case of Van Halen, they became eligible in 2003. Most artists don't get in the first year they are eligible because there are a limited number of inductees each year. They'll get in soon.
I also can't believe that it has taken this long for Black Sabbath to make it. I read somewhere that Deep Purple is not in and that astounds me. Blondie is a great underrated band that several posters in this thread touched on - RMTex is right that they are down to 4 members as they have released 2 albums since re-forming ("No Exit" and "The Curse of Blondie"). The first one is not that good with the exception of the song, "Maria", but "The Curse of Blondie" is probably the best album since the wildly eclectic "Autoamerican". The only problem with them, IMO, is that they tried too hard to be diverse that a lot of their stuff (especially starting with "Autoamerican") comes off sounding forced. The albums "Parallel Lines" and "Eat to the Beat" are my 2 favorites by them. And Clem Burke drums like an absolute madman (like he is the second coming of Keith Moon) on "Dreaming" - great song. I understand why it took so long on Miles because he is mainly jazz but he was highly influential on fusion jazz or jazz with a rock music bent in the late '60s and early 70's. Then he retired around '75 and came back 6 years later with stuff that was so light and fluffy that it makes me shake my head. I have those elevator music albums ("Decoy", "You're Under Arrest", etc.) but they are only for completion purposes only. Those albums are NOWHERE near the ferociousness of stuff like "On the Corner", "Live-Evil", "A Tribute to Jack Johnson", "b****es Brew", etc.
Think I heard saw on a news channel they were talking about the inductees, and mentioned that Ozzy and the band didnt want to be in it for awhile, and actually sent a letter to the committee and told them not to induct them. A few years ago Sabbath reconsidered and now their in.
Glad to see the love for Clem Burke, one of the most underrated drummers out there. The sheer amount of styles he takes on ... Where's Dr. Feelgood?
