Assuming that the Texans have a top 5 pick (which is likely) what position should they go after? Last year I wanted Boss Bailey to replace Stevens, but we went for a Tight End...a few weeks later signing Billey miller to a 4 year extension. Who are the top 5 players in the 2004 draft and what positon should we try to upgrade? I like Tommy Harris out of OU, but a rookie would get killed in that 3-4 scheme. Kevin Jones out of Virginia Tech could be just what we need. His running ability could open up the passing game. How about Go with Roy Williams and Carr can sit in the Shotgun all day :) I know it's a little early to be discussing the '04 draft, but after yesterday's game I noticed how good this team could be in a couple of years. I wanna know what you all think. And if you think this a stupid post...just dont respond. Thanks.

Sean Taylor,Tommie Harris, Marlon Jackson, Kevin Jones, Vince Wilfork, and Steven Jackson are the ones to scout and keep your eye on for the Texans.

Defense, defense, defense. If the draft were today, I'd go after that safety from Miami. In fact, after watching Portis last year and AJ this year, let's just draft all Miami players. :D

Why hasn't anyone mentioned to fix the OL? I would try to grab a guard or tackle w/ the 1st pick so we can get that line revamped.

I think the Texans will go with defense... either a big lineman, or a shut-down cornerback. (Glenn and Coleman will be one year older next year).

I think the O-line is starting to gel a little... they've definitly held up better than last year.

Probably because a rookie in the OL is something no one wants to see, unless he is an OL in the mold of Orlando Pace or Tony Boselli.

IMO, I think the Texans need to address the OL via free agency.

Its still early in the college season,I'm pretty sure there are players who will emerge and be great pick-ups in the later rounds.

Well, we might be high in the draft to pick someone like a Orlando Pace or Boselli.

Not unless one emerges this college season, and even if one did, and the Texans have a top five pick, knowing they can still draft that guy a few spots lower, it would behoove them to trade down (if they find a deal).

IMHO, it would be better to have an experienced veteran come in on the line, rather than a rookie.

agreed!! I think our top two picks should be (as stated earlier) a D-Lineman and a cornerback. I would love to get a big, honkin DT like the ones we ran into this past weekend. Watching the Jacksonville game, I couldn't help but drool over the thought of Marcus Stroud or John Henderson as the nose tackle in our 3-4.

As for our corners, I think Kenny Wright is a really good 3rd (NOT a starter) corner, so if we retain all three this offseason we could draft a cornerback prospect in the 2nd round and let him get seasoned under those veterans.

BTW, anyone know how Aaron Glenn is? He didn't play much of the game on Sunday but I haven't heard anything since he went out? I guess that's good news? Anyone?

draft Roy Williams. Trade Gaffney and picks for a middle 1st rounder to get Maurice Clarett
    or plan B

Draft Oly Manning(better than Peyton, whose is better than Carr)

then trade carr for clarett + experience off linemen from same team

I like the idea of drafting Roy Williams, however, the greatest need for the Texans is defense.

Gaffney has shown tremendous upside these first four games, and has shown that he can be the #1A option out there with Andre Johnson.

Clarett will be lucky to even go in the first round. There are too many character issues, injury issues, and whether or not he can take the beating that NFL defenses are going to give him. His best bet is to play more college ball and get more experience, get bigger and stronger and prove the detractors wrong.

Eli Manning is one of those tweener blue chip prospects, he has the arm and the accuracy, but something about him irks me, can't quite put my finger on it. However, at this stage of the game, I'll take everyday of the week and twice on Sunday.

I know this a basketball website, but football teams seldom make trade after trade after trade. Most of the time it is picks that are traded for picks, or a disgruntled/pot-stirrer/clubhouse cancer that gets traded away.

Who is Oly Manning??? Is that the little known, illegitimate 3rd son of Archie, who is kept chained in the closet, like Sloth from The Goonies???

With a top 10 pick, we should go after Sean Taylor or a defensive lineman, not an OL guy. You can pick those up in later rounds; no need to squander it in the first. At any rate, I think Taylor from Miami is the best bet, seeing how McCree works out. Getting a CB in the 2nd/3rd round sounds good, with the 4-7 rounds being focused on the OL. Unless there's someone who REALLY stands out this year on the offensive side of the ball, I think we're set at QB, RB, and WR, for the most part.

I agree with you about Sean Taylor. He is the most exciting DB in college football since Charles Woodson. I think he will be a Pro Bowler by his second season.

no way the Texans use a 1-2nd round pick on either a OL or RB ..... they will go after DB or DL .... Its been obvious that the weak link for us is 1. Matt Stevens at FS & 2. our depth along the deffensive line..... I think with Hollings and Davis the Texans are set with the RB's * assuming they continue there progress*.... I dont think they take a TE... shouldnt get a QB. But has evidence with last years draft they seem to take the best player thats left where there pick comes up. We also should get extra picks with the trading of Hensons rights..... Wouldnt be surprised if we take a WR in 3rd or 4th round...they have been putting in Marcus Coleman is some situations because they believe that after AJ,Corey, and Jabar there is a huge drop in quality of talent at WR.... Vic was upset that the Texans didnt draft more Deffensive players in last years draft...this year I think he gets some quality first day *1-3rd round* picks.... how about Vasher? maybe move Marcus to FS??? ahh this is fun...long way to go... 1 more thing I wouldnt be surpised if we draft in the 6-10 position.... but we are a top 10 lock .... I see atlest Arizona,Bengals,Chicago, & Jax being at or below us at the end of the year... few other teams like Jets,Chargers look like they are in for a long season also....

Later rounds B.J. Symons might be a good pickup. He reads the field well and can throw downfield effectively. First few rounds though, one word: DEFENSE! The offense is coming together, AJ is a stud, maybe on pace for a rookie of the year award (and possibly pro-bowl appearance). Carr is the Texans quarterback solidly. The rookie RB they have is showing some skills, I forget his name. Only thing on the offense that needs serious help is the offensive line, which I agree should be adressed through free agency.
