Today I placed a check as a down Payment on a 2004 BMW 530i Sport. I have been watching this car for a year and have only seen glimpses, but recently saw the revealed pictures of the inside and outside and I love it. I was going to get a Lexus SC430, to replace my current Lexus SC400, but then decided that I wanted something bigger, but something that still drove well. The one I ordered is Silver Grey Metallic / Black Interior. It will be a manual 6-speed transmission with a bunch of goodies like satelite radio and a 12-speaker Harmon-Kardon sound system. The lights are the adaptive Xenon lights, and because they are adaptive, they turn along with the steering wheel. It also has the controversial I-Drive, which controls most of the car through a mechanized knob (don't know much about it) The only thing I couldn't get was the Navigation with the Heads up Display (on the windshield in front of you) because then I would have had to wait until February or March. I can get it installed later. I know its not the sportiness of the Lexus SC430, but its more practical and comfortable. The SC430 has run flats that go out every 12-15 thousand miles and cost $1600 a set! The BMW has a 4 year 50k warranty AND does all maintennance including oil, brakes and service for free. I am pumped and waiting! The first ones are being shipped to the US and will arrive at the end of September, and the first ones to be sold will be here in mid-october. I specially ordered what I wanted on there so it will be here in the last week of October or the First week or two of November. It is on the BMW Home page with three shots of it! www.bmwusa.com
Sweet ride! Just wondering when you are ordering a car like that do they negotiate any on the price or is the sticker just it?
I am quite the haggler, but with the demand it was difficult to get much off of MSRP. I actually got $1000 off of MSRP, which I didn't feel was a bad deal.
Funny you threaded this Khan. My wife has a 2001 3 series, which at the time seemed like the perfect car for her. Since then, we had an addition to our family, so we needed a bigger car. I love the old 5 series, but wasnt going to drop the money for a car that would depreciate so much when the new body style came out. I have been awaiting the arrival of the new 5 series for months. Check it out...
Watch out for the "free oil and service for 4 yrs" deal. When I bought my Audi, they stuck me with a dealer fee of $387. So really, the oil changes aren't free after all.
huh, thanks for that post. that makes me like my ford that much more. my ford has a radio, can catch local stations clearly, unless there's a storm. i makes this hiss hiss pop pop. who knows maybe its a feature.
mmmm....Just imagine me in there!! The Silver Grey Metallic is just an awesome color! Baqui, I went through every fee they have and haggled it all. Being on the other side of a negotiating table from me is not fun!
If the dealer is willing to sell you the car then you can be sure of one thing...they are sticking it to you.
Am I the only one that doesn't like the new body style? I don't know what the BMW designers was thinking when they came up with these new models. The 7 series doesn't look as good as before either. Don't get me wrong, this is a magnificent piece of machinary. I just wished they looked more like they used to.
As was previously mentioned, if you want a 5 series, you may want to wait for the 2005 M5. A 5.0 liter v-10 with around 500 HP. http://www.edmunds.com/future/2005/...html?tid=edmunds.f.photos.leftsidenav..0.BMW*
Put me in the "I hate the new body style" category. I'm sure it will be a fine ride but the current 5 is a much better looking car IMO. As for the current 7 series... I think BMW ruined the best looking car they have ever made when they redesigned the 7 a year ago. But what do I know... I love my MINI Cooper S. Congrats on the new ride. We expect full review after you get it. PS I haven't heard one good thing about idrive. hope your experience is better.
Rather than wait two years for the '05 M5 and paying almost twenty thousand more dollars, I settled on the '04 530i Sport. The M5 is a piece of Machinery, and I considered getting an '01 or '02 M5, but I figured the old body style would get old quickly. Rockets Red Glare, True, they wouldn't sell it to you if they weren't making money, but they also gave me a $2000 contribution to my Rotary Club Charity Gala in October of 2003 of which I am the Co-Chair of. And I think I got a good deal, and that the car is worth what I am paying. To quote Ben Graham "Price is what you pay, value is what you get"
The 5-series was supposed to come out much earlier, but many changes were made after the new 7 series came out. BMW gauged the response and acted accordingly. The I-drive is supposed to be much simpler and easy to use in the 5-series and the body is beautiful if you look at it. I was looking at the E-Class mercedes as well (which I love), but like the feel of BMW's better. They are sportier and cling to the road like glue. The manual also will make the car more enjoyable with its lack of 'true' power.
We'll have to go out and have some fun in it and I'll show you that i'm not an 'economics' guy all the time! Of course I do believe in Game Theory when it comes to women!
Same here. I loved the old E-Class, it was a great looking ride. For whaterver reason though, Mercedes decided to get very conservative with their most recent E-Class. I, for one, was not impressed. The folks at Daimler-Chrysler could have done better. IMO, the new 5 is the better choice.
I saw the new E55 AMG and was blown away though. A friend of mine bought an '03 SL500 and its one of the sweetest looking cars ever. Have you ordered your 04 5-series yet? Where did you order it through and what is your timeline???
We put a deposit down 2 months ago, but according to the dealership, we still have a few months to go. We are shooting for the middle of Novemeber. BMW North Scottsdale
Where did you get it? Momentum may have some bad service but they will cover the maintenance periods every 15K. If you come in before or between you will have to pay for that oil service.
