Most Valuable Player Shaquille O'Neal, Heat Can you dig it? Rookie of the Year Ben Gordon, Bulls Super athletic scoring guard, could have a Dwyane Wade-type rookie year. He could also have a Troy Bell type rookie year... Coach of the Year Jerry Sloan, Jazz The media fell in love with him this past season... He'll likely win it if the Jazz make the postseason Most Improved Player Gerald Wallace, Bobcats Shined in limited PT with the Kings. Great rebounder, thanks to his leaping ability. Could develop into a Marion-type SF, if he improves that jumper. Defensive Player of the Year Ron Artest, Pacers The last two DPOY winners (Zo, Big Ben) won two in a row (well, if you ignore Dikembe in between them) Sixth Man of the Year Desmond Mason, Bucks Athletic slasher's a nice change of pace from shooters Redd and KVH. Better defender at the 2/3 than both. All-NBA 1st Team F Kevin Garnett F Tim Duncan C Shaquille O'Neal G Kobe Bryant G Tracy McGrady All-NBA 2nd Team F Jermaine O'Neal F LeBron James C Yao Ming G Steve Nash G Allen Iverson All-NBA 3rd Team F Carmelo Anthony F Dirk Nowitzki C Ben Wallace G Michael Redd G Paul Pierce Discuss
Carmelo wont make 3rd team. he is nothng more than a scorer (mini Glen Robinson) with Kenyon there he will lose more and more shots. I think Stevie will have a big year (since he can play iso ball again). I look for him to make 2nd or 3rd team
That could be the worst post of the week. The jello carmelo is 20 years old. He is and will be a great player.
MVP - O'Neal Miami has nowhere near the depth last year's Laker squad did, even with all of the injuries. If Shaq can get them into title contention, he'll deserve it. Rookie - Okafor Gordon needs time to adjust to the NBA, and the Bull's best player (Hinrich) plays his projected position. I'm not sure if Chicago's draft was as good as fans think. Barring injury Okafor will remind us of a young Alonzo Mourning, and with him starting his team's frontcourt is already better than other teams in its conference (Toronto, New York come to mind.) He gets my vote. COY - Sloan Has a very talented roster, and is known for doing more with less. Most Improved - Dejuan Wagner Possibly any of Charlotte's building blocks... right now it's difficult to say who will pan out. My vote goes to Wagner, a player with Iverson potential whose biggest problem has been injury. Sixth Man - Stephen Jackson DPOY - Artest? On the other hand it's unlikely that Artest will win it two years in a row, even if he deserves it. Not sure who I'd pick in his place. Bonus predictions: Most improved teams: Utah, Boston, Washington, possibly Phoenix if Nash can mantain his performance Biggest disappointments: Cleveland, Denver, Houston, New York, Miami Players who will be shipped out come February: Kidd, Payton
First of all, you need to define a GREAT player. Cause our definition must surely be different if you see Melo falling in this category. Granted, he is VERY good scorer, he lacks the court vision etc. that is essential to making his team mates better. Compare his game and stats to Glen Robinson as they are very similar. Scoring- A Rebounding- C+ Passing- C Dribbling- C Defense- C
There's lots to argue with that, but the biggest one I'm gonna have to go with is the rebounds. He got 6 per game at the SF spot. HE is a solid rebounder, and I never will get the knock on him for that. Then again, the Melo hate is a little surprising to, but to each his own.
what's so suprising about it? all he's done is gripe gripe gripe. "oh LeBron this" "oh LeBron that" "they don't let me play" "they don't pass to me" kid, grow up
C+ for grabbing 6rpg at the SF position? He lacks court vision? Do you watch him play? He's not nearly as disruptive or difficult to mesh with offensively as Big Dog. He's also much more athletic. He puts up similar stats and has a good midrange shot, but that's where a lot of the similarities end. Big Dog likes to pull up in transition, Melo takes it hard to the rack. Big Dog's a disinterested defender, Melo puts out an effort. He just hasn't adjusted to NBA-level man-to-man D (remember, he was hidden in Syracuse's 3-2 in college). I don't like Carmelo, but he's a good player and he's gonna get better.
Maybe not a great player right now although he did help turn around the Nuggets franchise. Like SI said so young so good. You guys are looking too much at the Olympics where he sucked and was a b****. The NBA is a total different game and from what ive seen he could easily excel into the hall of fame and maybe the top 50. Correct me if im wrong carmelo i think carmelo had a much better rookie season than glenn robinson. Unlike glenn he will take the next step.
Ugly 'Melo wont make anything...count on it. I vote for that Deng dude on the Sixers to be the RoY though.
Grant Ill... comeback player of the year, maybe? But even if he proves to be a serviceable forward, he's pretty much stealing from his team and preventing it from contending. He's worse than Vin Baker.
MVP: Tracy McGrady will show an all around game averaging 27 points, 7 boards, and 6 assists a game while leading Houston to the number 1 seed in the Western Conference Defensive Player of the Year: Jim Jackson With McGrady, Yao, and Howard shouldering most of the team's offense, JJ will focus on defensive. Will show the ability to shut down the best 2s and 3s in the league. 6th Man of the Year: Maurice Taylor Will average 15 points and 7 boards off the bench and prove crucial in leading the second team. Most Improved Player of the Year: Yao Ming While he was great last year, he will prove to be a monster this coming year. Now fully comftorable with the NBA and his increased size he will punich opposing team's frontcourts to the tune of 23 points, 11 boards, 2.1 blocks, 54% FG, 85% FT. Bostjan Nachbar will both finish in the top 5 for voting for this award also. Coach of the Year: Jeff Van Gundy JVG will flawlessly weave the teams new players with the old. The Rockets will once again be a league leader in opposing team's field goal percentage. Rookie of the Year: Derrick Zimmerman Zimmerman will take over the staring point guard position by midseason. He will lead the rookie class in assists per game. J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award: Dikembe Mutombo After winning the award in 2001, Deke wil once again get the honor because of his outstanding work on the hospitals in his homeland. Sportmanship - Joe Dumars Trophy: Charlie Ward This all around good guy exemplifies sportsmanship.
Deng plays for the Bulls. Igoudala is the Sixers rookie. I don't know if I should count on any of your predictions after that

Carmello is so overated. He doesn't come close to LeBron on offense, and LeBron is also a better defensive player. I would take Kirilkeno, Marion, Richard Jefferson, to name a few before Carmello.
