I can understand the student who posted a threatening profile but suspending the ones who looked at it? Well I guess I'll have to take down the threatening message regarding Pasox's ballroom dancing I was posting on my MySpace blog.. www.myspace.com/sishman From AP http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/11649424/ School suspends 20 over MySpace posting Calif. middle-school student faces expulsion over alleged threat on Web site Updated: 11:37 a.m. ET March 3, 2006 COSTA MESA, Calif. - A middle school student faces expulsion for allegedly posting graphic threats against a classmate on the popular MySpace.com Web site, and 20 of his classmates were suspended for viewing the posting, school officials said. Police are investigating the boy’s comments about his classmate at TeWinkle Middle School as a possible hate crime, and the district is trying to expel him. According to three parents of the suspended students, the invitation to join the boy’s MySpace group gave no indication of the alleged threat. They said the MySpace social group name’s was “I hate (girl’s name)” and included an expletive and an anti-Semitic reference. A later message to group members directed them to a nondescript folder, which included a posting that allegedly asked: “Who here in the (group name) wants to take a shotgun and blast her in the head over a thousand times?” Because the creator of a posting can change its content at any time, it’s unclear how much the students saw. “With what the students can get into using the technology we are all concerned about it,” Bob Metz, the district assistant superintendent of secondary education, said Wednesday. Metz said the students’ suspensions in mid-February were appropriate because the incident involved student safety. Some parents however questioned whether the school overstepped its bounds by disciplining students for actions that occurred on personal computers, at home and after school hours.
I've been reading that Facebook and Myspace are the new ways for employers to do a background check on someone. Applicants, think twice before you write about your binge drinking and how you collect women's underwear.
People that use myspace should be suspended from life. That said, the parents are right. The school shouldn't be able to do anything here. Everything occurred off school grounds on personal time.
Uh, when I was first hired last October for a work-study job at Baylor, my boss, who has a faculty account on facebook.com, called me in to talk about my political views being "liberal" on my profile. I kid you not. He acted like it was a serious problem. I literally laughed in his face and said "You're kidding, right?" Apparently he wasn't... Oh, the things you can get in trouble for on facebook...
I think anybody over 18 - 20 who uses thsi is a tool. Signed, the guy who has 10 zillion posts on CF.net.
Just by a few tenths of a post! I was cruising at around 13 ppd before I left the states last year, then had a big drop off. Being deskbound again though has started increasing it.
i dont think thats right. it has nothing to do with school, are we giving up our freedom now so that we can have security? reminds me of 1984, half-life 2, brave new world...
My girlfriends work just banned them from going to that site. I have it...check 1 time a day and that's it...others however are obsessed and live through peoples lives on myspace.
The Daily Show did a hilarious piece on this stuff. It's on google or youtube if anybody wants to find it.
