I got thru about a quarter of it. Waay to long, but it was a good read. I might finish it later. But everything sounds about right, including the murders and stuff. It happens everyday.
I've been working in prisons for almost a year. I can't confirm most of what this guy says because the best bet for someone who works inside is to not to ever associate with the 'offenders'. I can certainly agree with the whole no working out thing and the fattening food thing. It's not like these guys are huge and working out in the 'yard'....it's mostly a bunch of couch potatoes with tattoos.
Amazing, amazing read. Took a couple hours to digest it all, and I'm shocked that I even did considering how busy work has kept me. It was powerful because the OP was an educated college-grad from a middle class family where both parents were professors. His list of 10 'things you didn't know' and 10 'things you really appreciate' after prison were the highlights of his thread.
The best thing about the read is how he owned up to his mistakes and basically took responsibility. It wasn't anybody's fault but his own.
I wish Joran van der Sloot could read that. It would give him something to look forward to, as I'm sure it's going to be much worse where he's going.
At first I lol'ed at the link being Team Liquid....then I lol'ed again because I realized the poster was copypasting from boards I think recognized....and then I 'ed after reading it through. Very eye opening stuff.
i guess the rape part was really part of life in prison n that he wasnt really phased about it as much as the other stuff. funny that he mentioned american history x. i was thinking of another edward norton movie, where he told his friends to smash his face cos he didnt think hed survive in prison looking nice n clean.
Attempts distancing through humor: Does not work. Rechecks last year's taxes, calls home. Does not want to end up in prison.
I wouldn't be surprised if some or all this came out to be fake. Seriously, there were 33 murders in the 2 years he was there?
Yeah, according to this website: http://inquest.gn.apc.org/data_deaths_in_prison.html There were were less than 230 deaths per year in prisons acorss the US. So, for two years that's 460. It's unlikely that 14% of all prison deaths happened in that one prison... Even if it was a month with a lot of deaths, it still seems unlikely.
