Check out this story posted on YouTube about Fannie Mae, the Congressional Black Caucus, Barack Obama and cronyism: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=usvG-s_Ssb0 Don't think I've seen this posted here yet. Refutations welcome...
McCain had been trying to tie Fannie Mae to Obama for the past few days. Well, unfortunately he seems to be looking at the wrong office. http://dyn.politico.com/printstory.cfm?uuid=7CBB865D-18FE-70B2-A80ACC7D03A8F14D
Only Rick Davis is named in the letter and he earned "hundreds of thousands" as a lobbyist, while the Obama triplets were earning in the "tens of Millions" of dollars and were principle players-- hardly a comparison. Does anyone have more detail to even this out?
you simply ignored that mccain has an actual freddie mac lobbyist on his team but want to roll around in this crap.
and btw Giddy, this will be probably the fourth thread that has discussed this topic, fannie and freddie only gave $6K to Obama, the rest are from individuals who work there. But I know you will ignore this fact, along with mccain having an actual lobbyist on his team from those organizations
It is the individuals who work there that are the issue, not some guy who used to lobby for them who now works for the McCain campaign. Who's ignoring what here? The video purports that several of Obama's top advisors are/were top people at Fannie Mae... Are you staring at your blind spot?
McCain's association with Phil Graham is more damning.... The 134 lobbyists running John McCain's campaign The 134 lobbyists running John McCain's campaign The 134 lobbyists running John McCain's campaign The 134 lobbyists running John McCain's campaign The 134 lobbyists running John McCain's campaign The 134 lobbyists running John McCain's campaign I almost want to paste the link 134 times.
exactly, obama needs to hammer home this point, the disciple of trickle down deregulated economics who has been a large part of the bills that have gotten us here who doesn't believe there's an actual crisis (we're whiners remember) is a top advisor to mccain the issue is beyond freddie and fannie, its about deregulation (mccain's a regulator now)
The problem is that Phil Graham's role can't be fit into a 30-60 second commercial that folksy Americans can understand. Those who do understand have likely made up their minds.
Well the 126K figure they are trying to pen to Obama in that video have already been disputed. McCain tried to tie Raines to Obama and called him an adviser, but it turned out that McCain was being dishonest. Meanwhile It goes far beyond Davis as far as ties to Fannie and Freddie for McCain. It's odd that the clip you show has people saying the problem was lobbyists for Fannie and Freddie trying to keep regulators off their back, and when someone brings up lobbyists you dismiss that as not a big part of the story. This lists a whole group of people "no fewer than 20" that tied to the McCain campaign. Davis is on record saying that Fannie and Freddie didn't need any additional oversight. I'm sure you know what position Davis holds in the McCain campaign. http://www.motherjones.com/mojoblog/archives/2008/09/9663_mccain_fannie_freddie.html
I said that one guy's six-figure salary paled in comparison to the many tens of millions of dollars of "profiteering" alleged to have been gained by some in Obama's camp. What do you make of the video? It's obvious evidence of some kind of support...
As I said about the video. The one figure they kept touting of money given to Obama is misleading, since the total from the corporation is only 6K but the rest were just individuals who worked there. The other thing the video kept driving home was the problem the lobbyists had in getting the deregulation which caused this mess to happen in the first place. Looking at those two issues McCain comes out far worse than Obama. This video was pro-MCCain so they left out all of his ties. But luckily I've found evidence from other places. Which is why I posted what I did. What did you think of the mother jones article I posted, and all the many ties that the McCain campaign has to both Fannies and deregulation?
Sorry in advance... <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/J-YVt4gfquA&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/J-YVt4gfquA&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> All I could think of when I read the thread title. My condolences.
I read the piece. It's damning with a broad brush. There is simply guilt by association assigned to the lobbyists. These kind of lobbyist/political hacks are crawling all over Washington; it's part of the problem with the system. Should there be a litmus test for employment? I still see Obama's ties with more powerful guys on the inside as being more tarnished. McCain seems to have collected himself a bunch of drones on that matter...
