Since our offseason looks done, or almost done, I thought we could lightheartedly discuss what the heck could be the 2 for 1 deal that has been hinted at by Doc and the Chron.

I included the players I found more likely to be involved among the remaining free agents. Feel free to add you own guesses.

Ideally I'd love to get Gerald Wallace.

Out of those, I'd like Wallace.

It won't be Watson simply because Memphis isn't going to work a S&T for him, at least with us anyway. Not to mention Watson isn't worth enough to get that type of money he would receive in a deal like that.

I don't see why the Bobcats would do that either unless the REALY need to get over the cap minimum for the season.

Out of those you posted, I would guess Sprewell. Not only because of the JVG connections, but the T'Wolves might just go for a S&T to a) even get anything in return for putting up with him and b) (if Wesley is included) replace Hoiberg's production off the bench and spot on the roster.

Though, my real guess would be that it would probably be someone else. Interesting that Cassell is all of a sudden ok going to LA to take his physical.

IMO, I think the trade will be of the equivelant that the Moochie/Baker for Taylor trade was. We send out two black holes on the bench to get just one back in return to free up a roster spot.

Well, the 2 for 1 might have been a window of opportunity, which is now gone. It's quite possible, we were looking for 2 expiring contracts to go to a team with a bigger one, waiving that player, enabling us to free up another roster spot, and get rid of more salary in luxury tax.

Its also possible that the player we were aiming at is gone, or contracted so we can't trade at this time.

So, there may not be a 2 for 1 as our objective anymore. We might be ready to stand pat. But, I sure would like for us to get a better, younger PG.

Its almost impossible, but I vote "other", because I still want Finley.

I don't think a 2 for 1 will happen anymore. We were looking for depth in the backcourt and we got it in Anderson. He's got decent size and can handle some which gives us flexibility in putting lineups on the floor.

...well if u think about it who do we have to offer? Most likely its one of our guards such as james, sura, wesley. And like most of us are saying memphis won't do a SnT with us for earl watson, and although spree sounds more likely i see bobcats possibly considering the deal. They better and smarter veterans on their team, and i doubt they're looking to improve their backcourt seeing that their front court has okafor and may. Plus since we have our 2 in derek anderson we need a backup for tmac so i see the rockets tryign to figure out some ways to get wallace.

I've advocated a trade for Gerald Wallace for awhile now, given his height, youth, defense, athleticism; he could back up the 3 and the 2.

Considering Charlotte's holding onto their money, and hasn't made him a decent offer yet, but need to pay SOMEONE lest they not even hit the minimum salary cap, I'd say Sura + Wesley, or some such thing (although Wesley might be more than a little bothered to return to Charlotte and bad memories).

If it was a 2-1 with Moochie, Baker, Ward, Wesley (really a 4-1) that player better be a whole lot better than the ones you list because we would be taking a MAX contract player.

On a less technical matter, I agree with Sherlock that it is most probable we are not going to do a 2-1 now. I doubt we envisioned getting a guard the caliber of DA for the LLE, probably the orginal reason for thinking about the 2-1 (adding another servicable starter/excellent back-up guard/swingman).

Aw, c'mon. Give me a break here, for crying out loud! OBVIOUSLY I meant any choice of the above players. It's a shame that the bbs doesn't allow proper explaining of every detail before someone decides to be a comedian. Technical matter... no, surely I was suggesting 12M for the above guys... ;)

That being said, a 2 for 1 would allow us to free a roster spot for baxter, without having to cut anyone. Perhaps it won't happen now that we have DA. That is the point of the whole thread... speculating, though our offseason might be done.

I must have no imagination, because I can only think of two PG's I'd want on the Rockets: Jason Kidd (ain't gonna happen, not with that contract); and Andre Miller (and this would take some sort of 3-way trade in which all 3 teams would have to be damned sure they didn't improve LESS than the other two teams; in other words, this ain't gonna happen either).

Well, make that three PG's, but we won't get Mike Bibby either.

Not too many solid points out there for the taking.

I think we've done enough. Wait to trade the expirings until the trade deadline. Maybe we can pick up a Vince Carter type player like NJ did last season. We'll have about $12,000,000 in expirings (Moochie, Wesley, Baker, Ward) and if you add in James, that's $15,000,000. So we can afford just about anybody. Be patient, CD.

although youare under-estimating the contract sizes (wesley, moochie, baker, james, ward = about $17M) your point is, well...on point.

when we get close to the deadline there is allways a team that hit rock bottom unexpectedly. those teams are willing to let anyone go for cap space and a chance to start over.
