I remembered something I heard today when I read this quote in another thread:

Yesterday on 1st and 10, Skip Bayless said that he was revising his prediction of Clemens re-signing with the Astros based on media reports out of Houston that Drayton doesn't want him back.

Has anyone else read anything like this?

That has got to be total BS. How could he not want Roger back? He's great on the field and in the club house.

    ...and the Box Office.

Skip is unwatchable. Woody is unwatchable. Who could possibly be their demo?

If it ain't on astros.com, I'm not sure I trust it.

Someone might check through Lopez's & Justice's blogs for something, too much blathering horsesh!t there for me.

And like mateo said, it *is* Skip Bayless.

I refuse to believe that such a woman would possess such poor taste in men.

    I need proof.

    Guys,

I know this is probably bunk, but maybe Drayton does not want to pay $15 million to him, and may want to go with the young guns on the team.

For whatever it is worth, the chemistry on the team is great....

Though replacing Astacio with Clemens is a no brainer IMHO, but it ain't my money.

    Hmmm... I saw that too.

I think he said media reports out of Boston though.

Almost 100% positive he said Houston. Co-worker agrees.

If he wanted Roger back, he should have offered him arbitration. The only reason Roger is a free agent is because the Astros made him a free agent.

Sure he wants him back, but he doesn't want him back for market value. He wants to get by on the cheap and hope that Roger gives them a discount.

ummm..no. roger had a choice in the matter, too. he didn't have to accept arbitration. a guy pondering retirement...trying to up the bidding....why would he accept arbitration if he even remotely thought he might want to play next year, and could do so on his own terms, joining a team well after the season starts?

The fact that Roger has not signed tells me that he at least favors Houston.

He is waiting until after May 1st, I would bet money that Drayton and Roger worked all this out under the table last fall.

The last media report I heard is when I saw Drayton telling his interviewer (whomever it was) that they were already prepared to contact Roger immediately on 1 May.

Or he really likes the idea of not pitching a full season, and he also gets the added benefit of having another competitive bid driving up his price. I hope I am wrong, but I get less and less confident every day about him coming back to the Stros.
